Trying to work out if I should fly via here or via DFW for a trip to AUS (direct isn't an option for where I'm arriving from).
IAH is slightly closer to the Austin area, depending where in town you're headed. That said, there are toll roads, both in Houston and Austin that you'd probably use, so factor that into a rental car cost (if you're renting). There aren't highways the whole way between Houston and Austin either. DFW is further, again depending where you are headed. There are some toll roads, but they can probably be avoided. It is a straight shot on the I-35. However, there is almost always construction somewhere along the route, and it is very heavily traveled. My advice....if you'll be driving mostly during the day, and avoiding the worst of the rush hour (especially leaving either DFW or IAH), then fly into IAH. If you'll be driving at night, then use DFW. I've done both, and neither is very fun. |

We're moving overseas, and while most of it is lining up, I have an issue I'm still stuck on. I'm traveling on United from Albuquerque to IAH, arriving early in the morning. I'll be checking 3 large bags, and have one carry on and one cat. On a separate booking, I'm leaving 7 hours later from IAH to Tbilisi, on Turkish.
United has given me conflicting answers as to whether I would be able to check my bags all the way through from Albuquerque to Tbilisi, therefore I'm going to assume that I won't be able to. Assuming I need to collect my bags from the first flight, then get to Terminal D and check back in, is there any sort of transport between terminals *outside* the security areas? Is it all enclosed, or would I need to find an uber, or some such? |

Have a morning AA flight this month. Have amex plat and wanted to maximize the time spent in the CL since it opens at 6 am now. What time does the AA check in counter open? No point in getting there early if I cant check my bag.

Hi everyone,
I'm landing in IAH soon and looking to rent a car from the airport. Are there any agencies which don't require a free shuttle somewhere else, but instead have cars on the terminal? I want the process to be as quick as possible both for pick-up and return, and don't want to add a buffer for shuttle delays etc... I'm a bit confused as none of the agency websites specify it, but all aggregator search engines (e.g. Kayak, Expedia) indicate they are all by shuttle and none are in-terminal. This can't be right, can it? Any pointers appreciated! Thanks. |

Looks like it is a central location for all the biggies. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a58b283a84.jpg |

Reason I say 'it can't be right' is because most of the airports I've visited usually have a a mix of on and off-rental facilities, with the cheaper agencies consolidated off-site. I thought this might be the case as well at IAH but looks like it isn't - thanks again! |
It's an easy shuttle over.
ORD, MIA, IAH, DEN, CLE, soon to be LAX are all examples that come to mind for US airports with no rental cars on-site. |

Since we are in Texas forum, DFW also has a single rental car facility (off site). Been that way for a long time, going back over ten years ago during my road warrior days (oh I miss those days :()

Hello!
I've never been to IAH before (live in DFW, so use DFW as my primary airport). This trip, I will be originating at IAH, checking in for a KLM flight at Terminal D. I have TSA Precheck and Clear, but I see that Clear is not available in Terminal D. How are the security lines at Terminal D around 8PM on Sundays? Is there a way to walk to Terminal C or E (both of which have Clear) for expedited security if there is a long line in Terminal D? I will be flying business class, so not sure if that allows me to use any priority screening lines in Terminal D. I've been reading about all the security mess at Amsterdam airport (multiple hour waits to get through security), so I am trying to plan ahead for my first trip originating out of IAH, don't want any surprises! Any guidance or recent anecdotal information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

All terminals are connected by SkyWay, which is quick and also easy, and runs quite frequently (kind of like SkyLink at DFW). Also connected by SubWay, but that is before security, so not much help ;) |

A hint if you're being dropped off at D, as I just drove past D check-in this afternoon. All the dropping off vehicles tend to try to pull over in the first 1/3 of the terminal curb space and cause backups. Stay in the left lane, pass all that congestion and find easy curb space down stream. No matter what, add 30 minutes to your planning due to construction at IAH affecting the traffic patterns to ALL terminals, and that includes all remote parking shuttles as well. |
traffic issues
Traffic is really bad at times at IAH due to construction. People were getting out of cars and walking.
https://www.chron.com/life/travel/ar...EtqH59ZVK-YyUE I landed on a Sunday night a few weeks ago, and it was really bad, basically grid lock around Terminal C. |
