DFW: security are without boarding pass or leaving security area between flights?

Hi everyone,

I'll be flying via DFW soon and will need to pick up something from a friend over there on the way.

Would my friend be able to get into the security area without a boarding pass so we can meet there?

If not, is it easy enough for me to leave the security area (the departing flight goes to Puerto Rico, so I guess that's international) and then re enter to board my flight?

I only have 1 hour 50 minutes available between flights in DFW.

I appreciate any help from you guys, many thanks in advance.

Your friend won't be able to get through security, but it's very easy for you to exit, meet him, and re-enter. You just need your boarding pass to re-clear. International or not doesn't matter for security. And DFW security checkpoints usually have very short wait times, 5 minutes or so is typical unless it's Monday morning or a holiday weekend.

Edit to add: welcome to Flyertalk!

Thanks for the welcome, swag, and the fast and very clear response!

That instantly puts my mind at ease.

I guess I will just transfer to the terminal for my outgoing flight (if not at the same terminal already) via skylink and then follow the exit signs to get out of security.

I will tell my friend to check the terminal and gate for the outgoing flight and meet at the nearest security check point.

That way I only have a short walk back to the gate before boarding.

Does that sound feasible?

Sure. The only complexity is that each DFW terminal has 3 or more checkpoints, and if the gate is between two of them, "closest" may be ambiguous. Will you have a cell phone to contact him? If not, it may be safer to meet instead at a pre-designated checkpoint at the departing terminal. A few extra minutes of walking, maybe, but less chance of not finding each other.

Checkpoints listed here: http://dfwairport.com/travel/security/index.php

Spanish may be most common language, but I can assure you it's part of US

Great, thanks so much guys.

I will have a mobile with me and got it all sorted now with my friend, he will monitor which terminal and gate I depart from and will let me know where he is waiting.
