Question: DFW Shuttle Area
This is my first post on this forum, and I am really hoping someone can help me out. I live in Winnipeg, Canada and will be travelling for my first time alone on Tueday the 13th. I am only nineteen so I am a little nervous about the trip. I am going to be arriving at DFW and will be meeting six other people where we are hoping to rent a shuttle. I was told to meet them at the "Shuttle Area" which should be beside the "Taxi Area". I want to have all my plans set up before the trip so I know where I am needing to go when I land, and not looking for maps and trying to find the place. I will have my cell phone but don't want to use it unless its a last resort because it will be expensive roaming fees/long distance charges.
So, can anyone explain to me what terminal this shuttle area is in? and where we can rent shuttles at DFW.
Thanks

DFW Shuttle area
Welcome Jloeb to flyertalk and to the joys of air travel!
Here is the weblink to the DFW airport website. On it you should be able to locate the shuttle/ground transporation area for your terminal.
http://www.dfwairport.com/
Are you guys headed to a local hotel? There may be a shuttle specific to that property that you could use for free.
One suggestion would be to use Supershuttle which you can book online and in the process one can even earn more miles, always a worthwhile goal here.
Best of luck to you in your travels. If you get stuck just ask most folks in Dallas are willing to help if you are polite.

DFW airport is pretty spread out. There are 14 or 15 (!) spots to get a shuttle, basically, one near each exit from the gate area / bagage claim. The shuttles at DFW are called "shared ride" on both the website and the signs, and they are adjacent to the taxi stands. Find it on the upper level of Terminals A, B, C and E, and on the lower level of Terminal D.
Are you and the other people flying in from different places or different airlines? If so, you should plan a specific meetup place. The airport website should show the terminal and gates for each airline (except AA, which is spread across several terminals). Any flights coming directly from Canada will arrive in terminal D, the international terminal.
If you are coming in to different terminals - if you have no checked bags, use the skylink train before leaving security to transfer to other terminals. If you have bags, look for the Terminal Link bus on the upper level bag claim to get a ride to other terminals.
Finally, consider a meeting place inside the terminal. If you're coming from different places, you may be waiting a while, and your Canadian blood may find July temperatures in Dallas a tad on the warm side...

there are a buses(not a suttle)to the rental car area. if renting a car, meet there. in front of the budget or hertz counter. there is seating. no food sales.
if going to a hotel, some hotels have their own shuttle. you may have to call them to get the shuttle.
some of the hotels have a shared shuttle. i have not taken it, but it runs very infrequently(less than hourly).
there are other kinds of shuttles going to offsite parking. and to downtown dallas.
dfw is very big. not like iad or dca, or even bwi(which i am familiar with)

"Rent" a shuttle?
I assume that since there are 6 of you, you may be posting about renting a van. if so, it's usually easier and cheaper to "pre-rent" online (today or tonight), and pick up (with several stops - big signs - at each of the terminals' lower levels) a marked shuttle bus (free) to DFW's auto rental center. You can rent at the center, but (a) being 19 will make the rental cost more, (b) you'll have no idea of price or availability, and (c) no concept of which 'brand" may be best. Being 19 is worst of all, since rental companies are not enamored of the statistically established predilections of young drivers.
Then there's hotel shuttles and parking shuttles, etc., a different ball of wax/can of worms....

After re-reading the OP, I'm now interpreting the request as not "renting" but "using" an area "Shuttle Service", of which "Super Shuttle" comes to mind and for which pre-booking is wise (and for which a web lookup can define service areas, costs, skeds, etc.). The SS vans leave from several stops (signed) on the lower level of each terminal. There's even another shuttle service that goes as far as Waco, "The Streak".

jumping on this thread, i've signed up to be picked up by Super Shuttle one night next month. The confirmation after order said to call them when you land so they can leave the south parking "holding" area and come pick you up. I assume there are some of those "call" kiosks where you press the button and it connects you with that specific service or limo?
