Time on Home Screen in PST, Everything Else in EST?

So I have my profile set to GMT-5. And that's what all posts in all fora show.

But on the teasers section of the home screen, it's in GMT-8.

What gives?

I have the same issue and asked about it a few weeks ago - no response.

Sorry cheepneezy, somehow that original thread slipped through the cracks. Thanks for pointing out this issue, and thank you stevenshev for reviving it. We should be able to get that fixed relatively quickly.

Seeing how you guys are in a fixing mood lately, I figured I'd resurrect this issue....I'm still having it.

The thing is that it's not easy to fix. The forum loads all of its pages dynamically based on a ton of variables. One of those variables is the time zone setting that you have set in your profile. You see everything in Eastern Time because that's what you have your preferences set to.

The front page doesn't work that way. It's built every 3 minutes by the server and cached. It knows nothing about your time zone when it does it, or even if you're a logged in user or not-- it displays the page that it put together on it's last build.

We could change it to print times relative to the current time, like "posted 2 mins ago", but that really kills part of the point in caching it. It's just more processing that has to be done to figure out what needs to be displayed on the page.

I'm open to suggestions.

how about suppressing the time entirely?

+1 Seeing how this is an international board, the PST timestamp means little. And the front page thread listing used to list the member who last posted in the thread as opposed to the thread starter, I found that more useful.
