New banner is way too big!

Now that this new ugly obtrusive banner is on every page, how can we get rid of it? I could easily eliminate the old one using ......., but I can't figure out how to eliminate this one yet. With this banner, the actual useful data doesn't start until more than halfway down the page (and that's after removing the ads too) on a high-resolution monitor.

It formats poorly and is too big. The best I could do with Ad Block was to get rid of the blue and the picture.

Yes. It takes up a good fifth of my northern screen real estate.

As noted, ....... won't get rid of it.

Any hacks out there, or could we just lose it?

I don't know how to get rid of the banner, but this line:

127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net

in my \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
file gets rid of all of the ads. You might need to clear your browser cache and restart the browser after setting this.

....... does that extremely well already...

I guess the idea with FT now is to make it impossible to use without paying the extortion fee (though I think even that won't let you get rid of the banner. Eventually you'll need to page down three or four pages to dig out the posts.

Even though I pay for the premium service I still find the new banner distracting if only because it's so blue.

and why we seeing a google add on the home page? I thought we pay to be add-less completely.

I'm using Firefox and Ad Block and I'm not seeing any ads around this new banner... BUT its about 25% wider than the posts on the page meaning everything is squished to one side in roder for it to fit in. DOH!!!!!!
