Wierdness (indexing issue?)

When I'm in the Hilton forum page, the sticky Hilton family hotel master thread shows as having a post 7 hours ago, yet when I open it the last post was months ago.

I then tried to open that thread using the last post link and get a profile for StrayVector whereas the forum page shows fhfiaddn as the last poster. StrayVector is the last poster when I opened the thread.

Potential Spammer?

Most likely it's the spam trap effect.

I observe a similar incident just the other day with another thread in SPAM. The newest post in the say thread was showing in the forum frontpage but not in the thread itself. For hours, I just couldn't get to see the new post. The search index was functioning back then, so something else was going on.

Not being a mod myself, I decided to probe a little bit using search by the user name. Thanks to our defected IB search, all members are allowed to see deleted (spam-trapped or whatever else) posts, even just partially . It appeared to be a newbie. From the partial post I was able to see, this newbie happened to be a spammer as well, since I was seeing hyperlinks to a commercial site. BTW, his FT handle was a giveaway as a spammer.

Using the same method, I saw fhfiaddn is also registered less than a day with one single post in HH Forum. Can't tell if there's any spam nature in the text I was allowed to see from his only post:

Hilton Garden Inn Dulles

Opening in Fall 2008 the Hilton Garden Dulles North is located less than 6 miles from Dulles Airport....
Can mods dig into fora they are not assigned to and read the "dirty" laundry? Maybe the forum mod can tell you more about it? Aren't you a mod and already know all the behind-the-scene secret?

It will be interesting to learn how our built-in spam trap works though. From what I know, I have been using my human eyes in the middle of the night and RBP quite a few spammers that did get through our spam trap in the last couple weeks. I've been thinking the spam trap doesn't really work until the incident I spotted the other day.
