SPAM PMs?

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but just today I recieved a PM from someone with the whole I have 45M to invest...blah blah scam, FWIW the user has 0 posts. Not sure to whom or where one should report such a thing, regular posts have a "report" option but I didn't see that for PMs.

thanks

You did the right thing to post it here. You should also contact any moderator and forward the PM. Any one of us can then suspend the spammer. We would also send the handle to House of Miles so that all the PMs the spammer sent would be deleted.

And the spammer is now suspended, with a request sent to House of Miles to delete all his PMs.

It's a change of pace from the Nike and cell phone spam I get to whack.

I'll echo what SanDiego1K said and put in my own thanks as well. We've seen a slight uptick in this sort of spamming activity and have a few ideas as to how to make it restrictive and this type of information makes us turn up the time table for a solution or two. Most FlyerTalkers have no idea what volunteer Moderators like SanDiego1K do with spam but i can tell you that they delete tens of thousands of spam messages a year on FlyerTalk. Actually, one of our volunteers, Spiff is infamous on his devotion to ridding FlyerTalk of spammers. So, these volunteers do have your back and with your help like this, we can now work on ways to prevent or at least limit these new types of attacks.

Cheers

PM Spammers Vs. Email Spammers

On a slightly different note, I got an email with the miles selling/trade sort of message a while back (Jan. of this year, I think). I forwarded the email to the mod, expressing my concern for the potential spammer/mile broker. Admittedly, I don't get that kind of spam from FT very often.

To my disappointment, the response I got was something like there's no way to prevent members doing this blah, blah. blah. I don't think there was any action taken against that person who sent me the email, judging from the mod's reply.

I don't think I saved spam email nor the mod's reply. It seems to me a very prompt action was taken against ryan182's PM spammer this time. My question is: do our House of Miles handle PM spammers differently from email spammers?
