Subscriptions and how exactly do they work?

I'm trying to "go deeper" in my FT awareness and usage. I want to know if I can subscribe to any thread that has a post using a key word (example: Russia). Is this possible? I'm trying to reason this out myself but I'm in need of the community's assistance. Many, many thanks.

woody125....there's at least one way to do this but it's kind of rudimentary. And it'll only cover threads where "Russia" has been used in the past.

First you need to do an advanced search in all open forums typing in "Russia" as your key word. You'll get back a rather large list of threads where someone used the word and then you'll have to cull through the threads and decide which are worth subscribing. As future posts are made to these subscribed threads, they'll pop up in your MyFlyerTalk Subscribed Thread area. But the threads will continue to pop whether or not the word "Russia" ever appears in the thread again. And then you have to continue this search/subscribe process on a weekly basis to capture any recent threads where "Russia" was used.
I don't know of a way to capture current and future threads where the word appears and have it automatically added to your Subscribed Threads list. But we have a LOT of smart people here on FT who are familiar with the vB software that may be able to help here.

Thanks Cholula. You are omnipresent on this board. The DL folks miss you a lot. Our loss is Alaska's gain I guess...

I think I get your drift on how to do this. Just no way for me to get information about new threads without doing another "Russia" search, right?

If this is a doable request, I'll be the first to sign up for it.

Many thanks!

You could save google search as a bookmark. The link below searches the last month, just change the as_qdr=m1 bit to another number if you want to check more than one month.

As already stated there is not a way to get notices on new subjects based on a keyword. Thanks for the help Kiwi Flyer & Cholula. One thing you can do if you haven't already though is to subscribe to the Russia forum and it will let you know of new/active topics either on a daily or weekly basis. Go to the forum:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=485

Then go to "Forum Tools" >"Subscribe to this Forum" and fill out the form to subscribe to the forum. I hope this helps. Thanks,
