Try not to use words that are too common while searching, that should help you immediately or you can post what phrase you are trying to post and I should be able to help you out with the phrase/word.

We are looking to upgrade our servers in the near future and believe that this will have a very positive on our site search as well. Thank you,

Since there are often complaints about search I thought I'd mention an improvement. I hit the 'new posts' button this morning and it returned 529 results! ^ I always wondered what I was missing when it capped at 500...

Search fn not working for me

Lately when I've tried to search a (public) forum, I get bounced out to the member login page, even if I'm already logged in. I'm just clicking on "Search" and entering my keyword(s).

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

It sounds like you have an outdated cookie (with respect to the search server, but the cookie is ok with our main db server so you only have problems with searching). This should solve your problem:

1) Click the 'Log Out' link in the upper right navigation, three links to the right of the 'New Posts' link.

2) Log back in.

3) You should now have no problems when clicking the 'New Posts' link or searching.

I'm glad to hear that an upgrade is coming. At times the site can really crawl along. With regard to your search suggestion, I don't want to sound snippy, but being descriptive is what I want in a search. Trolling through endless threads gets a little repetetive.

I'm looking for any thread discussing when United bonus miles for tax payments post to your account. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your help.

Try searching on the phrase "tax payments" and limit your search to the United forum. This comes up with 16 results, not sure which of these results are useful to you, but some of them should be. Hope that helps.

it will help us if you could identify exactly where and what you were looking for. There may be a bug and unless we can replicate your search, it makes it hard for us to detect anything.

Could you list where you originated the search, were you in basic search or advanced search, what was the term you were searching and which forums (all?) that you were searching in. With this more detailed info it gives us an opportunity to determine why you had the problems you did have. Very sorry and hope you can volunteer this information so we can get this fixed.

Thanks.

Most of the time, my searches yield results that go back no further than April, 2004 (when the new software was installed). Occasionally, however, I get results that go all the way back to May, 1998.

Over the last couple of days, Flyertalk has run very slowly at times (when no other website has been slow) and it seems like the search function times out on me during those sporadic slow periods.

All in all, though, search generally works.

Now if only we can get people to use fewer 2 and 3 letter abbreviations in their posts and titles.

The MAN speaks, I must respond LOL. Originated in United, Advanced, All Forums. It appears your servers are a little overloaded. FWIW, I don't visit as much because your site crawls so much waiting for ads to pop in. Ads are cool with me as long as the servers can handle them. I here an upgrade is coming, great, I look forward to it...still love the site. Although, the speed is sometimes analagous to pulling teeth

I was in Advanced search, searching on the phrase "business class sale" and limiting the search to the American forum.
