Instant notification emails

Instant notification emails
I have found lately that I rarely get emails notifying me of a new post in a thread that I have subscribed to, or I get them late. The latest example being I posted a response to a thread at 5pm one day, I select instant notification, and get an email that someone has responded. Only the new post is at 2am the following day and there are seven posts before the one I was notified about. What is going on?
