This may be found elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. I want to go to a particular message in a particular forum using the message number. Searching the number doesn't do it. I don't want to wade through 200+ messages on either side of the one I seek! If not possible, I definitely want to suggest this as an improvement.

Do you want to direct other people to a specific post? If so, you click the number in the upper right hand corner of the post. That brings up a url specific to that post. For example, I arbitratily chose a post within the lengthy Expedia/Hilton mileage run thread. This was the resulting url:

No, I just want to find my way back to the middle of a particularly long forum thread without having to scroll through all the pages of messages one screen at a time.

Where would I paste it? If into my browser window, how would it know what forum I want message #229 from? (It's the KVS Availability tool discussion which is part of Mileage Run I believe)

Scott will likely have a more elegant way, but this will work.

How many posts do you have set up to show in a thread? Mine is set up for 30. Thus, I go to page 8 and find post 229:

I think a combination of these ways will work best.

If you want to save your spot in a long thread, then simply right-click on the post number in the upper right-hand corner of the post and bookmark the url which will look something like this: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...01&postcount=5

Now, when you want to resume reading Who Will Be the Next FlyerTalker to Post (or whatever mind-numbingly long thread you want to review ) you simply open that bookmark. The page that pops up will be just that one post, but here's the magic part: at the top of your browser, you sholuld be able to edit the URL and change the word "showpost" to "showthread", leaving everything else unchanged. So, now you have: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...01&postcount=5.

If you make that change in your address bar and hit enter, you'll be in the regular thread view, but zoomed right to the post you were looking at. It doesn't matter what your posts per page are or anything else. You can even send someone else the link or post it as I've done here.

Brilliant! Scott, SanD and Robb, the combination of your suggestions enabled me to get directly to the spot I wanted and greatly diminish all similar frustration in the future. Now if only my spouse was so user friendly...(Just kidding---he is)

Also, I discovered that the same R click trick would allow some posts to be translated into English! If only Google translated geekspeak.

I don't know how you folks figure all these tricks out, but am so glad to have access to such a resourceful bunch!
