Problem with search engine

I have been unable to use the search engine much of the time for the past few weeks. I've noticed that the Hilton forum seems to be the biggest problem. The box drops down, but nothing happens after I submit my search. This happens in both IE and Mozilla. Any suggestions?

tcook052 Oct 21, 2005 6:42 pm

Just noticed a snafu today where when I go to use the advanced search option, it keeps asking me to sign in, even though I'm already signed in otherwise I wouldn't be able to click the search button. @:-)

Dunno what that's about.

FlyingToFly Oct 23, 2005 1:58 am

I'm trying to search within the United MP forum, but it keeps timing out on me.

I suspect that it was turned off this morning as the repair utilities are being run.

I had the same problem today using advanced search (asking me to re-log in, etc.) so there seems to be something the servers are fretting about. I do know we had well above average traffic on FT this morning but noticed the problem was from several days ago. I asked the tech guys where they are on determining what this problem is from. Thanks for the input.

Tim at WebFlyer Oct 31, 2005 12:30 pm

The recent occurrences of this issue had to do with the problems described in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488009 We are working on this problem now...

CApreppie Nov 1, 2005 1:05 pm

Please fix the search function. Oh how I miss it!

dlflyer2 Nov 1, 2005 3:09 pm

I'm stll receiving the error response to New Posts.

I miss the oportunity to do a quick catchup with what's going on in all the forums.

GUWonder Nov 1, 2005 6:01 pm

Certain types of searches seem to be skipping some posts too.

Like "Finding more posts by GUWonder".

Jeeves Nov 1, 2005 9:13 pm

Is there somewhere we can go to on this site that will tell us of current operation issues.

I happened to see someone mention that "search" was down. I spent a lot of time today trying to search over and over again to see if it would work.

I know that stuff happens but it would be good to know if it was a user error versus something going on with the system.

SLF Nov 3, 2005 12:32 pm

Search is missing posts

Specific example.

In BA forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=446), do a Search this Forum for MFU shareholder, and it should return this post in the list (title: "Upgrade" an existing booking with BA miles (=£££), last post to this thread was approx. 31 minutes ago so it should be high up in the list) but it does not appear (both keywords appear under list item #3 in the first post).

I've continually been having problems with the search forums tool. When I search it claims "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page." Is this due to being a new user? Or does it relate to the problems with the search engine described in this thread?

MileKing Nov 4, 2005 10:45 am

'Search' seems broken to me. Hasn't worked in at least a few days and I've tried multiple computers. Tells me I'm not logged in when, in fact, I am.

Tim at WebFlyer Nov 4, 2005 10:48 am

The are still problems with the search. We have to take down the board for a few hours to fix the problem that we have with it so until then it will not work at all for some users and will work to an extent for other people. Thanks,

fduvall Nov 4, 2005 10:52 am

Is there any reason that there can't be a "sticky" where people can go to find out about operational issues, instead of wading through multiple threads by people asking the same questions?

Additionally, is it possible to give some estimate of the time frame for fixing this problem? It has been going on for several weeks and countless threads have asked when it will be repaired. Just give us any info so we can set expectations.

Search not working

I'm logged on, with "Welcome, ether." but when I try to use the search function it brings me back to the login page and when I login again, it still refuses to let me search. Please help!

Getting to be a pain as I can't search for info about a specific hotel in the SPG forum. :(

When will the search blackout end?

fduvall Nov 7, 2005 11:32 am

You may be able to ask a Mod to do a search for you. When this happened a few months back I think Mods were still able to search. Worth a try...

I wouldn't want to burden the volunteer Mod's with a request to pull up an exsiting thread every time I wanted to update the topic with a new item or tidbit of info. I guess the old adage that you never know what you've got until it's gone very fitting as I didn't realize how much I was using the search feature until it wasn't there.

Thanks for the thought, though. :)

Craig6z Nov 7, 2005 9:13 pm

I am not able to properly search when logged in as Moderator2, either.

cblaisd Nov 7, 2005 9:43 pm

Search hit or miss. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes not.

New Posts

Sevaral problems here:-

(1) When clicking on 'new posts' link, I was presented with a login page despite having been logged in.

(2) My subscribed thread no longer post the content to my email account. I've also checked that I have not unsubsribed accidentally.

Any ideas out there to help sort out the issues above?
Any advice gratefully accepted.
Many thanks.

Kibison Nov 8, 2005 7:58 am

Apparently, no one knows what is going on. Even the Moderators. I wonder if Randy knows everything is screwed up? I am ready to start looking for a better frequent flyer newsgroup or at least one that works. Any suggestions?

Tim at WebFlyer Nov 8, 2005 11:28 am

We don't want to take the site down for the needed maintenance while the election is still going on, the search/new posts problem has not been forgotten and it will be addressed. Thank you for your patience.

fduvall Nov 8, 2005 12:31 pm

Sorry to keep being the squeeky wheel about this, but enough of the Talkboard elections and let's try and fix the functionality of the site.

I don't see this being mentioned, but so far I can search without any problems (just not using the New Post link). BUT, when the results come in, the last date it pulls from is October 30. Nothing from any posts from then to now (November 8).

Same here. Guess we just need to wait until the administrators are able to do the maintenance.

Search Errors

Even when logged in, when I try to search, I get the sign in boxes.

Then, even when I sign in with my normal ID and Password, it gives me an error message. This has been this way for some time.

Any resolution in sight??

Can we get an update? Even if it means there's no news, it would be nice to hear that um...there's no news.

CApreppie Nov 10, 2005 11:21 pm

Just fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CApreppie Nov 12, 2005 9:58 am
