I am not receiving Email Notification

Is it just me? I have several 'instant notification' threads and none are coming thru the last 36-48 hours. Is there a setting somewhere I should check? Thanks.

ALadyNCal Jul 24, 2005 2:11 pm

Hmmm....no notifications for 48 hours. Yet the SECOND I post this...one tiny little notifcation squeaks thru  Still wonder if there is a problem tho...

ScottC Jul 24, 2005 7:30 pm

Must be a problem, I am not getting PM notifications either. Something is not working...

John at Webflyer Jul 25, 2005 8:35 am

Well, one of the users decided that TalkMail was spam and decided to report it to several blacklists. I suppose it's possible that there is a problem because of that. The servers are sending mail as usual.

gleff Jul 25, 2005 7:02 pm

Notifications aren't being redirected to my bulk folder -- they just aren't being received.

SanDiego1K Jul 25, 2005 11:20 pm

I'm getting perhaps 1 in 5 notifications on subscribed threads.

SEA_Tigger Jul 27, 2005 9:53 am

I just received two PM notifications, and both took me to the private messages section of "MyFlyerTalk".

ALadyNCal Jul 27, 2005 10:01 am

I am getting most now -- I THINK...

I'm getting about the same....for both PM & subscribed threads.

stimpy Jul 28, 2005 8:23 pm

I had my email notifications stop dead last week. So I switched the notifications from sending to my gmail account, to my verizon.net account to see if that was the problem. Now a few of them trickle in, but not all. There is clearly a problem somewhere, but it doens't seem like a spam filter issue, does it?

stimpy Jul 31, 2005 11:48 am

Any news? I switched to another email account and still only get a few of the notification messages I should be getting. I don't think this can be a spam filter issue as that would block all flyertalk email coming to me.

wma Jul 31, 2005 4:23 pm

I'm having trouble receiving notifications also. I thought it was me. I'm having them sent to a yahoo account, do you think that's it? I thought the problem was that I had too many threads with instant notification, so I went and cleaned it out, but it hasn't helped. Is there something else we need to clean out or clear?

wma Aug 8, 2005 10:38 am

Still not receiving notifications

Hi,
Still not getting all the instant notifications, I should be getting. Do you have any idea whose end the problem is on? I use Yahoo as mail. I seem to get some notifications but not all, and I have them listed as instant. When I go to my subscriptions in Myflyertalk, I see they are instant and I see they are current subscriptions. Is there anything I can do to resolve the problem?

ALadyNCal Aug 8, 2005 10:43 am

I am still not getting them all either :( Still sporadic.

John at Webflyer Aug 9, 2005 8:59 am

The servers are sending mail without a problem. There is definitely some type of problem with people who use Yahoo mail getting mail from Flyertalk. You might want to contact Yahoo.

ozstamps Aug 10, 2005 7:30 am

Like SanDiego1K and I (and others IIRC) have reported for some time this is not new it seems.

And John my email account is Bigpond Telstra, Australia's largest and has nothing to do with Yahoo, FWIW.

None ever end up in Spam trap. They simply do not arrive.

I get about 1 in 3, and that's been the case about all year.

stimpy Aug 11, 2005 3:08 am

In fact for THIS thread which I am subscribed to, I sometimes get a notification email, and sometimes I don't. Any clues FT management?

And I too don't use Yahoo. I have tried gmail and verizon with the same results. So again, I don't see how it can be spam control.

blackjack-21 Aug 15, 2005 10:31 pm

Seems to be happening to me also. None for several days to my Hotmail, and I've noticed that several threads that I've posted to have further replies. No emails to me though.

777 global mile hound Aug 19, 2005 11:17 pm

Same problem here..........sometimes I get notified other times not
Or 4 notifications for the same post
Sometimes I go back to the thread and recheck to see if I actually subscribed
as I missed a number of responses. All along I was thinking it must be a dead thread with no interest.Only to find its humming along :)
Oh well it's not a perfect world after all ;)

Dovster Aug 20, 2005 3:30 am

I don't use Yahoo and have been running into the same problem -- I receive notifications from some threads and not others.

John at Webflyer Aug 22, 2005 9:09 am

We believe that one of the flyertalk web servers is on a blacklist and the other is not, which is why the problem is intermittent. There's not much we can do about it except wait for the sewrver to fall off the blacklist.

You could contact your ISP.

How does a site get off the blacklist?

That supposition definitely falls within the realm of possibility. However most of us are small fish when it comes to talking to Yahoo, Google and MSN. It would be great if Flyertalk could try to fix this, given you have the resources that is.

ozstamps Aug 24, 2005 5:17 am

I got about 10% of the replies to the new Oz Fest thread in the past day or so.

Seems well under 50% for most threads.

Would not that indicate it is unlikely but to be one server John? As that would generally average 50/50?

Ditto :(

All you can do is wait until you fall off the list based on no complaints over a period of time.

The people who maintain the blacklists do not care who you are and about complaints by server managers.

The funny thing is that only system notifications are sent out by the webservers so any spam complaints came from people who were complaining about their join confirmations or post notifications.

Not necessarily.

ozstamps Aug 24, 2005 7:14 pm

Thanks John. I thought like tossing a coin, the mathematical probability is ~50% if responses sent by both are around same numbers.

A simple solution - can I ask that my replies be routed via the NON blacklisted server? ;)

blackjack-21 Aug 25, 2005 1:03 am

Down to 0 % now. Several of the threads that I posted to (including this one) have had replies in the past 24 hours, but no emails came through from FT. So it's gone from a small percentage of notifications, to none.

Maybe Blackjack is Blacklisted? ;)

Thanks, Glen, that must be it. Although your post above generated an email to tell me of it, so my percentage changed from zero to 2.47396485 % . None of the other replies to my other posts have gotten emailed to me. You must have some large amount of pull on FT. :)

ScottC Aug 30, 2005 9:37 am

I just received a couple of PM notifications dated July 22nd. Obviously, whatever was stuck in the queue got set free...

EDIT: also just got a bunch of "reported posts", would have been nice if they were not already over a month old...

nmenaker Aug 30, 2005 9:45 am

lucky you

lucky you scottc, I just received 24 notifications!

well, I guess the system is working again.

:-)

ILuvParis Aug 30, 2005 9:50 am

And lucky me too! I just got all my July 25 notifications!

qasr Aug 30, 2005 9:56 am

I just got an FT email from July 26... Better late than never! I just wish I knew what the person who emailed me is talking about! :D

qasr Aug 30, 2005 9:58 am

Hrm, I'm actually getting more in chronological order--I just got one from July 27. Are ALL the FT emails since then being resent? Some of these I have already received before...

belle3388 Aug 30, 2005 10:04 am

Weird?

I got seven PM notifications today, but when I signed on to FT to view, there was nothing new in my inbox?

Check the date on them, they are probably >1 month old...

wma Aug 30, 2005 10:07 am

The Dam Broke

What ever was holding up the emails let them through a few minutes ago. I got 37 emails in my Yahoo account. The interesting thing was I transferred my email address from yahoo to comcast, and the dam hasn't broken on comcast. Maybe I should switch back to yahoo. Hmmmm.
