I had 167 new emails in my inbox today. Turns out they are not so new - they are missing FT notifications.

nmenaker Aug 30, 2005 10:10 am

another batch

yes, just got another batch, 33 emails from the 7/26 date. The previous ones were 7/25. Hopefully, we won't get all the old emails in order, from everyday for the past MONTH!

whoop, too soon

another five from the 29th, looks like they will ALL be coming in.
time to setup a filter to the trash.

ALadyNCal Aug 30, 2005 10:18 am

flood gates must be open

I have rec'd over 180 and they are still comin' in! Now that we've gotten all these new replies, we can bump our threads back up - lol

moondog Aug 30, 2005 10:27 am

i returned from dinner to find 55 notifications from the last 1-2 months. honestly, i had gotten comfortably used to only receiving notifications on an on and off basis. it was kind of nice having chance dictate which threads warranted a second look.

sweetsue Aug 30, 2005 10:32 am

the emails are coming... took me a while to realize they were from 8/1 and 8/2

hope its all fixed now

Yup, it's wide spread. I'm getting notifications from July 27-Aug. 4.
Seems like they had a clogged pipe, they just unclogged it and all the old e-mails are spilling out.

gleff Aug 30, 2005 10:49 am

Good news indeed, as I've gotten well over a hundred myself

That's exactly what happened more or less.

Sorry for the inconvenience. :(

This could not have been caused by a black list. I run my own email server and don't use a blacklist. I'm up to over 200 emails from FT.

No it wasn't caused by a blacklist. That was an early suspicion, but not actually the cause.

nmenaker Aug 30, 2005 1:41 pm

over 300 now

I have had over 300 now, but it is now caught up to 8/29, so it should be stopping.

ozstamps Aug 30, 2005 7:42 pm

"it never rains but it pours" as the expression goes.

blackjack-21 Aug 31, 2005 1:26 am

Yep, here too (and it's raining in TO now, with whats left of Katrina), as when I checked my emails this evening, all the missing one's from FT (earliest back from July 23) with replies to threads and some PM's all were there. Also two threads that I had sent to my email for forwarding, from August 2 and 3, finally showed up.

bj-21.

ozstamps Aug 31, 2005 1:33 am

But oddly enought, replies made in the past day to threads I am subscribed to have not arrived.

I'll expect them September 30. At least I now understand the new system. ;)

stimpy Aug 31, 2005 8:59 pm

Thanks Webflyer folks for eventually fixing this. But next time please listen to us before it gets to this state. Some of us actually do know a thing or two about the Internet and servers. In fact I'm sure some of us would volunteer to assist in a critical situation should that happen in the future.

I think it's starting again

I just checked and I had one notification of a thread. When I clicked on the thread, I saw that there were more than half a dozen posts. Is the problem starting again?

My understanding is that this is how it is supposed to work. One notification, regardless of the number of posts, until you visit that forum again.

I missed that advice. Was that from the FT techies?

What if you do not get the initial advice. System fails then.

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

Thanks for the most impressive cut and paste skills. Always wondered how to do that. ;)

It still does not answer my question - where does anyone official say you now only get:

One notification, regardless of the number of posts, until you visit that forum again.

If you are imputing that if there are 10 replies to a thread but you only get one email until you visit it, that is quite wrong.

I do not get 10 - more like 2 or 3 most times.

ILuvParis Sep 20, 2005 8:00 am

Not quite sure what your point is. An email from the "FlyerTalk Forums team" isn't "official" enough?

Now, whether it's true is another matter entirely.

nmenaker Oct 6, 2005 5:19 am

back to nothing again

I am back to getting no emails again.
is there anything that one can do to activate it?

nmenaker Oct 8, 2005 5:46 pm

anyone

anyone monitoring this thread, I don't get any emails at all?
Is there a new setting to hit?

stimpy Oct 9, 2005 1:46 am

As the most likely culprit is your own mail service, why don't you try to switch to another email account? Maybe create a freebie account somewhere just for testing. Then see if your Flyertalk mail gets there.

nmenaker Oct 9, 2005 11:33 am

tried that

tried that, nothing going to spam, nothing being filtered.

tried my yahoo, sbcglobal and gmail addressess.

John at Webflyer Oct 11, 2005 9:09 am

Mail is being sent as normal from the webservers.
