Posting Photographs

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to post some photos of my flights using the "[img]" tags but when I preview the post only the links show up. Is there another tag to display photos?

Thanks.

I'm not a member of the House of Miles staff up in Colorado Springs, but I can tell you that Flyertalk does not allow images to be displayed on the forums in order to decrease page load times. A simple link to the photo is all you can do.

and my welcome to you as well. Because of the overall traffic on FT, we have long tried to focus simply on speed and have felt that images would probably slow things down. Having said that, i can tell you that in yesterdays tech meeting, we again talked about opening up image posting in the Trip Reports forum. We are not sure of the ramifications, but look for a test of that shortly.

Again thanks for the question and welcome to FlyerTalk

I think the goal is actually to decrease page loading times

Thanks for the correction. I'll blame it on the painkillers I'm taking after oral surgery yesterday.

My vote's for that. Trip Reports is (to me) the obvious place we should be able to have photos show up (although they should load from personal sites and not FT to keep bandwidth costs down at the House of Miles). Maybe there's a way to set a per-user option to show the images or not to keep page-load times reasonable for those on slow connections.

Alternately, the protocol on other sites I visit where images are inlined in posts is to put (56k warning) in the thread title as a warning to those on dial-up and other pokey connections.

My $0.02 - if this does get tested, I've got a trip report I'd like to show off a few pics on.

There's NO shortage of places for folks to park pictures, many are complete with ready-made album formats for the HTML challanged.. Reasonably updated listings here
Not mentioned: YahooPhotos -- which pretty much sux anyway; Geocities is marginally tolerable.

My personal free selectee du jour: Photobucket

Just curious if there's any update on the "test" of the ramifications of Trip Reports pictures that Randy referenced this summer. I'd love to be able to read the reports along with the corresponding images.

Thanks.
