Chat Problems

Tried three times this evening to log on to FT Chat. First two times after signing in with my nick and password, the Java symbol comes onto my pc, then the sign-in page locks up. Had to reboot the pc. The third time, after signing in, I got an error message (couldn't copy and paste it, as the pc locked up again) saying something to the effect that the Server SDQ.db is unknown (trying to remember if that's the exact message), and that the error was on line 102, 104, and 106--same message. Same page said I had my nick and password wrong (I hadn't), then it locked up again.
Noticed that FT has been loading slowly this evening, from the other threads on here, but is anyone else having trouble getting into FT chat?

Using Netscape 7.1, on Windows 98SE, with a recent Java application. Haven't been to FT Chat in weeks, but this never happened before.

Thanks,

bj-21.

For the login error (wrong password, etc.) and overall slowdown, that's probably related to our vB servers getting jammed up and failing to check your login information against the database. That should be fixed now.

For the chat itself, we haven't been able to isolate the cause of the problem, only that it seems to happen in the middle of the night, then seems fine during the day. It could be related to the automated maintenance scripts that run each night on that server...

Thanks, Dan,

I thought it may be your server, so I'll wait a bit if it happens again, before trying to get into FT chat. Will try later tonight to see if it happens again.

Unhappy Happened Again!!

Dan,

Just happened again, shortly before 3 AM Eastern time. Signed in with nick and password, then the java symbol loaded on my pc, and the page froze. No error response this time. Had to reboot. Guess my timing is bad if I try to get to FT chat while your servers are doing whatever they have to do each night, and it freezes the entry page after I try to sign in.

Yeah, there definitely seems to be a pattern going on.

While we're determining what exactly is causing that jam up, can you make sure that you have the latest Java installed? It may help... who knows?

Java

Hi Dan,

This has only started happening recently, as on my past infrequent visits to FT Chat, I've had no problems getting to the chatbox.

The Java I'm running came with the Netscape 7.1 that I downloaded about eight or ten months ago, so while it may not be the MOST current version, it's pretty recent. We've had no problems with the Java application, using it for games, etc. on the pc (gotta practice my blackjack when I can't get to the casino!!) , and it seems to be working well.

I'm still guessing that it has something to do with your servers doing some maintenance that they automatically do in the late night, that may be the problem, but you'd know better then me.
