You should be able to search for three-letter terms. The default setting was for four-letter words, but we set that back one to allow users to search on airport codes.

There are certain three-letter words, though, that are common enough that the system ignores them for search words. Words like "and", "the", etc.

What terms, and in what forums, are you doing your search on?

What do you mean by "doesn't search"? Are you receiving an error stating the search term is too short, or are you just not receiving any results back?

Not knowing which "star forum" you meant, I searched for "MAA" in both the Starwood forum as well as the Star Alliance forum and didn't receive any errors in either. I also didn't receive any matching results, but that doesn't have to do with the length of the search term being too short.

Our search index is incomplete, which may explain why you don't get results back for terms that you know are within a forum, but you shouldn't get any "terms are too small" errors from that.

you are correct - yes it was in the star alliance forum,,
it didn't get any results - not an error message.

Is there anyway to add some function to add certain small words?
In some search engines, using +, " ", and others would allow search to happen for small/common words.

I tried terms like "1K" = too short, "one way"=too common get rejected as key words in the UA forum. I was looking for "1K one way award trip" as key word but since 3 of the words get rejected, the search engine only look for "award trip." Consequently, the search returned back with more then 500 threads.

Is there any work around?

Try adding a "*" (wildcard character) after a short term... ie. 1K*
