Morning... threads like this for example https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...ld-lounge.html are very long, and in this case started 10 years ago.... this makes it quite difficult to search & get anything meaningful. Do you think it would be an idea to archive off the older posts into a different thread, or maybe close this post and start a new one??

On the BA Board, we do split out the threads that get too long into annual threads, closing the older threads. An example of this would be the catering threads such as this one - https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...025-first.html as the menus change regularly.
The one you have linked meanders back and forth with not much change in the information, hence we have not split that particular thread out. Feel free to ask your question in it and the wealth of experience will soon have it answered quickly enough.
However, BA the moderators will consider it for the annual refresh at the end of the year.
As for general FlyerTalk archiving, I will leave someone better qualified than me to answer.

As aks120 indicated, practice varies from one forum to another and also can depend on the individual threads, so your best bet for these sorts of requests is to PM the respective forum moderator(s), which can be found in the lower right corner of each forum's top-level page in desktop site mode, or alternatively use the /!\ report button to make a request (it gets sent to all forum mods)
One potential workaround though:
also in desktop mode (I don't think there's a way to do this on the mobile phone version of the site unfortunately) you can do an Advanced Search:
and in the resulting dialog there is a dropdown to restrict results by date:
