I’m experiencing an inconsequential, but rather odd, issue in Safari on my iPad. I have the pref set to FT Desktop NG, but whenever I open FlyerTalk in a new window, I initially see the Mobile One skin. When I navigate to another page on the site, that page (and subsequent ones) appear in the Desktop skin.

As I wrote, it’s ultimately inconsequential but it may provide a clue as to the root cause of other strange behaviors.

I actually wonder if you could add your own username to the alerts and get notifications when someone quotes you that way

This exact scenario just started happening to me a couple weeks ago. I haven’t changed anything with cookies or ad-blocks.
Anyway to fix this?

Update: Keyword alerts do seem to work if your keyword is your username. You can set an email alert for hourly, daily, or weekly. An interesting kludge.

I can personally confirm that a Tracked Keyword Alert (Daily) also works to report quotes of a username which includes a space in the middle. ;) :tu:

However, using Android on my cell phone, I cannot see a way to delete this Private Message (PM), unlike all other previous PMs.

I suppose, to be really safe, I could change the notification method from PM to e-mail, if we cannot find a method to delete the PMs such that they don't fill up my PM Inbox.

For what it’s worth, I have not received a single notification for notquiteaff style mentions since the quote notification feature was removed. Definitely not a workaround.

It’s dead. :( The June 6th update removed it. See earlier posts in this thread.

I know where it is, but what I was trying to say is that no one had actually used it to “flag” me since the demise of the quote notifications, so as a replacement it clearly isn’t working. I even encouraged the use of this feature in my signature for about two weeks… didn’t help.

I'm one of the people who mentioned you, and I did it because you encouraged use of mentions, and it was a nuisance. It had a shallow learning curve, and it doesn't take long, but it's an extra step that's easy to forget and shouldn't be required. You are absolutely correct that it doesn't work as a replacement for quote notifications.

"Here's an idea, let's remove a functional feature and require the entire user base that contributes to the forum to learn a new, manual procedure when posting. And by the way, that user base also needs to learn a different manual procedure to see if anyone else has learned the first procedure."

In post #90, it was suggested that mentions could be used temporarily while a fix for quotes was being implimented.

IBJoel is the plan still to reimpliment the Quote feature and if so is there an aproximate timeline on that fix?

Thank you. Yes, I saw and your mention appears in my screenshot. It was shortly after I posted in this thread on 6/30 at 4:40am that the feature isn’t a good replacement :) You were the only one who used it “on me” after the quote notifications died an early and unexpected death.

I'm not certain what method you're using to delete your other PMs, but I could delete the Keyword ones no problem.

Check the box to the right of the PM (while looking at your general inbox)
Scroll to the bottom and click "delete" from the drop down menu

Why is the quote feature permanently removed? It was so useful!

His "yes to the first question" response indicates to me it's not permanent. Question was "is the plan still to reimpliment(sic) the Quote feature".

In my Android phone the general inbox does not have boxes to check at the right of each PM.

Instead, there is a "garbage can" Delete symbol within each PM to delete it.

OK, we are testing a separate "Who Quoted Me?" product (which may be compatible with the new PL version) on a small staging site right now. Please do not get your hopes up.
It functions differently, but you'd check it just like you'd view your subscribed forums/threads in your My FlyerTalk tab, so there's nothing new to learn

It was originally developed for Vendors on other sites, who generally use desktops, so that makes sense to me as a small oversight.

I ask this respectfully, but why is it that each time that you guys "upgrade" the site, the user experience becomes worse?

Well for one, I never use the term "upgrade". Each site change is an "update". Because "upgrade" means different things to different stakeholders. Tech values stability and security. Business values ad performance and traffic. Community values UX and features.

The biggest issue we have is that there is essentially zero standardization, even frequently within the travel & leisure department. That's a result of acquiring forum sites for 20 years and attempting to manage expectations for 2 million users. So as we move towards standardized sites, the worst part is of course going to be the bumpy ride to get everything in line. Once that's all set, then we can make tweaks to the vbulletin core.

I also want to say this: Compare 6 or 7 years ago. We'd do a site update and it would take a month or more to iron out all the glaring bugs. But now (thanks to standardization and process changes), feature-removal notwithstanding, the changeovers are much, much smoother.

When will the standardization be completed?

There's no answer to that.
The standardization project is a long-term goal that does not have the urgency or resources to give a specific timeframe. It involves multiple teams from multiple divisions with competing priorities.

I don't think this style of mention, which uses the UTAG function, has ever generated a notification via PM/e-mail or whatever. It used to be possible to use the MENTION function to generate a notification, but that seems to have been disabled recently - whether it was part of this update or some other one, I'm not sure.

Both of these functions could be generated by using the @ symbol and then someone's username, but if you selected the person's name when it popped, it would be a UTAG, whereas if you just typed @[username] and kept going, it would create a MENTION when you posted it.

I can see why one of these duplicative functions was killed off, although I would have preferred it to be MENTION that survived since I liked getting PM/e-mail when I was mentioned.

This is great news. I see the Who Quoted me at the bottom of all my subscribed forums on the My Flyer Talk page but I dont have anything in the drop down menu, either on the down arrow next to my user name or the bell. Will that come also?

What dropdown? [update: I found it, or at least I found a dropdown menu, after someone quoted me. On the other hand, when I command-clicked the Quote line to open the quote(s) in a new tab, the page reloaded without showing me any quote and the dropdown vanished.]

I also don't see anything like Your Notifications. However, I do not use dark mode. Would that make any difference? Or am I looking in the wrong place?
