Wiki editing is totally b0rked

Getting this on multiple devices (different network connections, OSes, hardware platforms). It is not specific to a given thread or forum; rather, this appears to be a global fail.

+1. Seeing the same error on multiple threads.

Adam Smith Feb 29, 2024 10:54 am

Same problem here. Chrome on an Android phone and Windows PC.

canadiancow Feb 29, 2024 11:19 am

Lots of reports in this in threads with wikis.

IBJoel Feb 29, 2024 11:24 am

This has been reported to tech with high priority

beltway Feb 29, 2024 5:21 pm

It is remarkable to me that a site like FlyerTalk, which depends on users to generate interesting content, cannot be bothered to fix a widespread, content-impairing outage like this more than 24 hours after the first report in this forum.

The term that comes to mind is “en****tification.” IB constantly finds ways not to fix things or even to actively break things that are working. (Ask me about all the brain-damaged “enhancements” to editing posts & wikis in the last several years—not just the ones I’ve reported here to no avail, but also the others I never bothered to report on account of IB’s staggering indifference to dysfunction. Go ahead.)

Honestly if we stripped away all customization, FT would run almost seamlessly

I'm not sure what type of customization would break the (formerly) existing ability to edit wikis--but if that's what happened, may I humbly suggest rolling back said customization?

WOO HOO: now > 48 hours since IB customized wiki editing by breaking it completely. FEEL THE LOVE.

Spoiler

EDIT: Over 60 hours now. Please enjoy the wiki I created above while you wait.

EDIT:

beltway, I'm issuing you a suspension for this. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, but you don't know what goes into the tech aspect of each site. While I understand your frustration, that doesn't grant you the right to berate myself or the tech staff for what we're finding out is a fairly complex problem that is being treated seriously. You also created a non-editable wikipost that mocks us. You know that we aren't in the office over the weekend, so complaining that we didn't fix it on a Saturday is absurd.

I'm announcing this publicly for a specific reason: Look, I get it. Tech is slow sometimes. That's for a variety of reasons: competing priorities, timezone differences, deeper technical issues they have to investigate, et cetera. It all bugs me too. I will listen to a complaint and a frustration, but I will not tolerate going back to hammer endlessly on a point, especially a passive agressive mocking. Community managers don't deserve that and our tech people don't deserve that.

That said: There have been maybe 3 or 4 instances where this has been an actual problem in my 8+ years at IB (JFC), so thank you to all 99.99% of you who are cool about this kind of stuff.

Confirming. I've been able to edit a few and am working through a few more. Thanks!

IBJoel Mar 13, 2024 11:28 am

Apparently broken again. Investigating

N515CR Mar 13, 2024 12:10 pm

Interesting, the edit button appears to be completely gone. That's a new one for sure!

It's still there for me and the issue seems resolved. If you clear cache/cookies, is it OK?

Nope, cleared cache/cookies and also tried incognito. Still MIA.

IBJoel Mar 13, 2024 2:58 pm

Are you running any VPNs or Ad blockers? Are you on FireFox?

Confirming that I'm seeing the same issue - no edit button, but I can print. No Ad blockers or VPN, on Chrome. And this is on all threads with Wiki.

IBJoel wikis don't seem to be appearing at all on mobile right now. I'm seeing this on an Android phone on Chrome, Firefox, and Samsung browsers. It also occurs on my Windows PC in Chrome if I switch it to mobile interface. They're showing up fine in desktop mode on any platform. Logged in vs logged out doesn't make a difference.

Sorry, just catching up on things, and I'm seeing the exact same as PTahCha's report.

serpens Mar 14, 2024 8:58 am

No edit button here.

Yes Firefox (v 122.0.1 on macOS 11.7.10 Big Sur), no VPN, no added Ad blockers. (I'm not sure what Firefox does by default, but I have no additions to block ads.)

Same here on iOS Safari, no VPN or ad blocker : can't see the edit button

philemer Mar 15, 2024 10:18 am

No "edit" button. Please fix.

+1 accessing via iOS.

nomadic.relief Mar 15, 2024 8:21 pm

I am also having issues seeing a wiki on Chrome Android mobile. "Incognito" desktop, not signed, in seems to work, but that's it.

missing edit button should now be fixed. Please let me know if otherwise.

We're still working on the mobile issue

I'm not seeing the edit button on any wikis, just the print icon in the bottom right. This is without a VPN, I've tried on Safari, Firefox and Chrome, and I'm not running any ad blockers. I should be good based on 90+ posts/90+ days?

Thanks!

IBJoel Apr 8, 2024 9:12 am

Is anyone else having the inability to see the edit button? I just tested and it was visible

Working fine for me. I haven't seen any issues since the round of issues around 3+ weeks ago.

Goldorak Apr 8, 2024 2:26 pm

I see the edit button

I don't see any notice in this thread stating this issue is fixed.
Wikis are not showing on my mobile phone, but are on my desktop.

Any ETA for this to be fixed?

(FWIW - Android phone, Chrome web browser)

I use an Android mobile phone with Chrome browser almost exclusively, and have no problem with FlyerTalk wikipost visibility.

Android 8.0.0; RNE-L22 Build/HUAWEIRNE-L22

Chrome 124.0.6367.113

Yeah, it's fixed

salteen Jul 19, 2024 10:24 am

Sorry to bump an old thread, please move if there's a more recent discussion. However, I now have 90+ posts/90+ days on FT and just tried to edit a wiki, and thought I was going crazy cause I couldn't find an edit button. It's not showing for me on either desktop or mobile.

Edited to add: Running Chrome, adblocker disabled, running in incognito/cookie deletion doesn't help.

FWIW, I still see them, in both desktop mode:

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2dddf1977d.png

(the pencil icon next to the left of the Lock button)

and also in mobile (the word "Edit" at the bottom of the wiki as in the screenshot, post 35)

As a random stab I was going to suggest maybe logging out and back in again, in case the FT software was going by your stats as of the last time you logged in, but you already tried incognito/clearing cookies so that isn't it.

Clear cache/force reload maybe?

Fascinating.... I don't see the Lock or the Edit button either in any wiki. Just a print icon:

Just for a variation, it might not even be the pencil already shown if/when it ever does appear (in Firefox).
