Yep see posts from a couple of days ago, seems to be a server issue rather than browser specific.

This occurs with both my laptop:

macos 10.15.7 Catalina
chrome 108.0.5359.71

Is this PHP related, or a new issue?
Today a lot of characters are garbled. Like apostroph is show as

Non-US-ASCI is also printed like that. Here is ö (o omlaut)

Wiki editing is down across the board, it has been reported and we're working on a fix.
Same with quick reply

GW McLintock Dec 2, 2022 11:21 am

Quick reply works for me, though it is not quoting your post.

ETA: I still get the "wait 29 seconds to post again" error, but at least this one went through.

I was also hoping you could clarify -- are you talking about the Quick Reply to individual posts, or the Quick Reply at the bottom of the thread? I have had zero issues with the latter.

Additionally, I had no problems editing the wiki here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...-3-2022-a.html (another not-so-shameless plug)

Seems like this update also broke subforum navigation from thread titles:

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4a14d8433e.png

Subforums used to be navigable links (i.e. I could click on Support & Services and it'd take me to the appropriate subforum).

This is an acknowledged issue predating the PHP8 issues that started this week and has its own thread

In some posts, I am seeing contractions -- such as that for "I am" -- render in such a way that it reminds me of Turkish words. Sort of saw the same thing happen when typing with letters that have some diacritical marks. This was something I had not seen prior to November 28th. I don't know if it's new to December or not. Saw this on iOS/iPadOS when using Safari. Didn't try the log-in/log-out game to see if that made a difference.

I think this is an issue only on apple devices. I've had it on multiple devices and browsers, while the same browser on PC is unaffected

I've also had the issue on one other forum, so not really sure what triggers it

Myself & others have reported it on PCs w/ Windows & Chrome, so definitely not Apple only (I don't own an Apple device).

I just posted something 1:39pm EDT on Saturday & got the spinning, so immediately went back to FT in another tab & of course the post was posted, so I x'd out of the spinning (might I note that after a few days this is VERY annoying).

After posting I needed to edit. I didn't get the spinning on the edit, just the original post. I would need to try & edit some other posts to see if it's a one-off or the norm on edits vs. the original spinning on quick replies.

Someone above mentioned quick replies on an entire thread. I'm confused by that. I just do post quick reply to the post above the one I'm responding to.

Cheers.

...

I think we are talking about different things?
GUWonder and I were talking about garbled characters. If the following looks like latin characters with umlauts to you, you are not affected: ëäöÄÖË

Also see images in post 124 and 125 above to compare Firefox 107 on Mac and Windows respectively.

Threads hanging when using quick reply

Wondering if this is a me problem or a more widespread issue. When I use quick reply, the site just hangs and it says posting and my browser (Chrome) has the little spinny cursor disk implying it's doing something, but if I navigate away or look on another device, I see the post has posted.

This seems to be a new issue in the last couple of days.

Yes it has been reported several times a few posts back.
