Issues related to 24 October 2022 upgrade
Since the "update" this morning, after which I was logged out, every time I close the browser window hosting FT and open a new window and reload the page, I am being forced to log back in.
|
I am also having this issue
|
What update? While I can still see my traditional home page on my iPhone, I’m seeing a different home page on my desktop that’s missing some items. For some reason I also lost my subscription to this forum.
What’s going on? Edit: The problem seems to with using Firefox on my desktop. I can log in with Edge. Yet I can log in on Firefox using another desktop. Is this an enhancement as I approach my 20th year on FT? ;) Update: I noticed the lengthy "enhancement" thread and cleared my FT cache from Firefox. It's now working again. I don't recall such problems in 2002 but I was younger then. |
Dunno if we want to start a new thread for today's enhancements, but the dropdown menus at the top of the thread aren't working, i.e. 'Thread Tools", "Search this Thread", and "Rate Thread".
... or are they? For me anyway, they seem to work on /this/ thread. They aren't working however on: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyat...er-thread.html https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyat...master-16.html or a few other Hyatt threads I spot checked. They get underlined when you hover over them, but nothing happens when you click on them. Delta forum: working I wondered if it might have something to do with the hotel reviews functionality, but nope, Marriott forum: working Dunno what's special about Hyatt, but... and yes, this is with any blocking turned off, and I have cleared cookies and cache, forced a reload, logged out/in again etc. EDIT: have since found other Hyatt forum threads where those menus DO work. No idea what's special about the ones where it doesn't work. Maybe # of photos or time to load or something. |
I had a problem today and first spotted the thread below. In short, I was getting some strange alternative home page on my desktop, yet the traditional website still displayed on Mrs. Fredd's desktop and on my iPhone.
After reading here, I confirmed that it would display properly on a different browser, and cleared the cache for FT in my Firefox browser. Now it's working fine. Thanks to those who mentioned that. Edit: I failed to mention that my subscription to this forum had dropped and I had to re-subscribe. It seemed an ironic touch. |
I was forced to login today, and was rewarded with the new 3-D looking icon on each post to alert a moderator and the new style icon in the MyFlyerTalk view indicating at least one unread post in a subscribed forum. Unfortunately, double-clicking that new icon in the MyFlyerTalk view for the Technical Support and Feedback forum still does not mark all posts in that forum as read. Since that action works in every other forum to which I've subscribed, I've got to think it's a programming error, and one with an easy fix. Could tech support please fix that issue before tossing cosmetic changes? Thanks.

There's very little distinction between them from either a color and/or contrast perspective: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...00ccd10d71.jpg This is really poor UI design. Since these are supposed to be different, make them different - different color, different highlighting, different content. Another example where having multiple icons in a column makes it hard to distinguish a read forum from an unread forum: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3a78659630.jpg Maybe have _nothing_ on the read forum icon? Maybe turning its background white or buff? Maybe going back to unbolding of the read fora? David |
Bring Back the Old Smileys
Respectfully... the new smileys are atrocious. They look ridiculous (exaggerated), the colors are obnoxious, and the quality is lower than ever before.
Nobody asked for new smileys (and if they did, they were mistaken). Please bring back the old ones https://web.archive.org/web/20070701....com/frown.gif -J. |
www.flyertalk.com needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding.
Starting this morning, every time I attempt to access FT, I get this message on a loop that my connection security needs to be reviewed. I get prompted numerous times, over and over, to verify that I am human. I do the image captchas numerous times. Goes back into the loop that it is verifying my connection. It takes about 5-10 minutes of this loop, verifying over and over before it finally seems satisfied that I am, indeed, human.
Don't know what you guys did to the system (assuming it's a change you made), but in its current state, it has rendered FT effectively unusable for me. |
I have this as well. It's very annoying. There seem to be more ads as well, especially one that floats around the middle of the screen on the mobile version of the site.
|
Yeah, FT went down for a while about 08:00 (West Coast time) and something was implemented. I keep getting the same message as above.
|
I am using Chrome (2 different computers). Need to Log In every time today.
|
Same here with the addition of the verify your secure connection captcha.
Same here. |
I have a hong kong-based sim card and whenever I access FT on mobile data, this happens. Since I'm physically based in Canada, it works fine on any other connection. Might be regional?
|
Also happening for me here as well.
Also, I can never access the site when I'm on the train via the Wi-Fi provided by the train company here in the UK. Keeps on saying that it's blocked. How are you going to serve all these ad impressions to me if you won't even let me on the site. |
I'm in the UK and starting today each time I visit this site or open a new topic I now have to verify I'm human by picking out pictures of lions from cats or other similar tests to prove I'm somehow not a robot. .
Is this really necessary? |
It seems FT is under a DDOS like attack (again) and cloudflare has gone into defcon 3 mode... :(
|
Are you sure you want to send a form again? - Is it me?
Had to log in yesterday - and now when I go to FT, I get a temporary page saying that that FT need to check the security of my connection.
And whenever I view a thread, and then click back in the browser to return to the forum, it asks if I want to send the form again. Cleared my caches and re-booted. All browsers, on Mac. |

Same here on android and chrome, getting fairly annoying with all of the secure connection checks.

Same. I have to log in every time I come to the site, on both Chrome and Safari.
|
On the topic of the forum icon, the new ones I would say are a strict downgrade from the previous ones. They are more generic so they lack flavor, and they really do look more dated than the past globe icons, while also being less relevant to Flyertalk. As mentioned, they are also harder to distinguish.
|
The new ones look goofy, like they were drawn by someone's kindergartener
|
In the name of all that is holy, the priority should be to stop the annoying backwards auto scroll when using the mobile site.
what is going on with IB?? |
I too am getting the security messages on each page.
And now I cannot upload pictures. Really small pictures. Can they maybe back out the "upgrade" ? Or at least think about it if these issues cannot be fixed. BTW this is both Chrome and Edge on Windows. |
“Performance & security by Cloudflare”. That’s what it says and I can’t but  given the mess with having to identity lions and horse countless times and the site hanging up anyway. Can’t even flip back and forth between desktop and mobile views without this “performance” outcome.
From my vantage point, the problems seemed to have started from something that started to roll on Thursday October 20th. What went live on October 20th with Cloudfare use by FT that wasn’t live on October 19th? In the course of the days since, the site has become less easily usable for some. It does seem to me to be more hostile to iOS device than non-iOS devices, but it’s messed up either way. Perhaps FT should open up a thread to have people privately post a list of Ray IDs where the posts are masked except to FT/IB admins and the members’ own posts in the thread? |

BTW from the Manage Attachments window, when I try to upload a small jpg file, it comes back with "Upload of file failed". No explanation why.

I've been getting those since mid-August. I was also constantly getting offers to log into a beta FT site since mid-August, so I wonder if I was just an early adopter of all this mess.
This “connection is secure” stuff with FT now is over the top in interfering with the user experience. Or at least that’s my view on it. |

My battle with Cloudflare continues. I can't post from the US; I have to reroute my VPN through a Euro country in order to gain entry. This has been going on for over a year. On Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. On both of my laptops and on the desktop. On my iPhone, even. Oy vey.
|
And the "did you know companies are using AI against botnets...." language displayed.
|
When I click the back bustton to go back to previous page, I am often getting the error
Document Expired This document is no longer available. The requested document is not available in Firefox’s cache. As a security precaution, Firefox does not automatically re-request sensitive documents. Click Try Again to re-request the document from the website I am also getting the checking connection message when connecting sometimes, however that does automatically progress after a second ot 2 |
Is anyone from FT support or IB planning on stepping into this thread with some feedback or updates?
|
Please -- let's have some patience due to some unanticipated exigencies. I'm sure IB staff will comment when possible.
Thank you. (No need to comment on this post) cblaisd, Co-Moderator, Technical Support forum |

I came here to figure out why forums weren't shown with unread posts anymore. I hadn't even clocked on to the fact that the two icons were slightly different. Agree, it is too subtle.

Nobody asked for new smileys (and if they did, they were mistaken). Please bring back the old ones https://web.archive.org/web/20070701....com/frown.gif -J. Some of the 'new' emojis are different enough that they express an emotion nuance that is not the same as that conveyed by the 'original' emoji, thus altering the intent and meaning of the post. Either revert or get rid of them altogether. Changing the emojis is similar to changing the actual words a poster used in a post. |
