Switched to mobile view and can't switch back to desktop view

Please help! There's no option to switch back!

nacho Oct 31, 2021 5:53 am

I got it back by changing the start of the week to Monday.

You can also force the full desktop skin by adding "?styleid=24" to the URL parameters. If there's already a ?x=y parameter in the URL you can append "&styleid=24" instead.

If anyone is reading this in mobile mode against their volition, you can click on this direct link to the desktop version of the "Edit Options" page: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/prof...ons&styleid=24 where you can change the Forum Skin (2nd item under "Miscellaneous Options" near the bottom) to "Use Forum Default"

I was idiotic enough to force mobile skin, hence the issue :D

Thanks for another solution though!

Thank you for this! Was going a bit nutty trying to figure out how to get it back to desktop version.

I see a Never Go Mobile checkbox so I will try that.

Mobile skin sucks, they should just get rid of it, now with bigger phones. I always inadvertently tap it and it scrolls way up.

Flyertalk is slowly killing itself. Even hitting never show mobile skin and all the instructions on here, you're stuck with mobile skin. Sadly, people would post more, and the new people that do post are not providing the same quality as before. Very sad.

This somehow just happened to me -- thank you Zorak for the link and instructions.

Thank you Zorak !

Thanks for the link. I actually had the desktop mode and the page suddenly automagically reloaded and brought up the mobile page. Yes, sucks. Had no way of reverting back. The „view desktop site“ or „view full site“ or whatever it was called is no longer available in the Hamburger Menu.

Your link did it. Tanks.

Drives me crazy…. Switches back to mobile view again, although I selected default view :(

It switches back to the mobile view mostly when I search for a thread in Google and then click on it. Very annoying.

Thanks for posting this. FT switched to mobile mode on my preferred browser last week and I couldn't figure out how to force the desktop version. Thanks!

Chiming in that this also happened to me and it was driving me bonkers. Not sure why my desktop got thrown into mobile mode in the first place but couldn't figure out how to get out of it until finding this thread.

This option is not available to me when I try to switch out of mobile mode on my phone.

Zorak's solutions worked for me on two different mobile devices. If you continue to have trouble, you may consider deleting cookies/clearing cache/etc. as the issue is probably local to you (unless something has changed recently, which is entirely possible).

thanks. I’m finally bookmarking this page for your link.

took me 2 seconds to mis-touch that Mobile button and then 3 minutes to find my way to this forum in mobile mode! Thank you zorak.

I've never had this problem in the past decade of being a member here, but it has recently (past month? 6 weeks) been happening every week or so. Any idea what's going on / what am I doing wrong?

Thanks Zorak! I was going out of my mind with this new look on my iPad! I’m still not sure if it’s something I did to trigger it, but it was absolutely awful.

RoseB Jul 9, 2022 9:35 am

Add a "Thanks Zorak" from me too. Using Safari on my Mac spontaneously started doing the mobile layout as well. I typically follow threads via email subscriptions so I'm not sure when it actually started happening, although I thought I was just looking at the website in the last few days. Very annoying!

CX HK Jul 28, 2022 1:26 am

This keeps happening to me still - I realize it is because I am Googling for topics on FlyerTalk, and half the time it brings me to mobile view. We really need a toggle that is visible where we can just easily switch back when on mobile view.

If you don't want mobile view at all, there is an option in the link IBJoel posted (which you can also get to by going to your user control panel):

Can confirm, this just happened to me as well...

DutchessPDX Aug 19, 2022 3:18 pm

Thank god for this thread. When this happens it's maddening.

dorisrpas Aug 20, 2022 6:15 am

Same thing happened to me recently, and have now bookmarked this thread. Android on Samsung S22

But, now instead of opening to My Subscribed thread (my bookmarked "Home" MyFlytertalk for FT) in normal usual way, it opens with the Control Panel expanded at the top (instead of panel aalomg left side) and the thread list below. Then thread posts are all oversized compared to the right panel and the Reply box - which even when I pinch-zoom to reduce don't go back as small as they used to be and the VIEW MOBILE SITE is a huge green button at bottom of page.

Probably a user (as in me) issue but I haven't changed any settings and can't figure out how to get back to how it used to be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Weird. Not sure what link you used, but clearing cookies should log you out and bring you back to the default.

dorisrpas Aug 20, 2022 8:23 pm

Okay, I got it back to normal - clicked on the settings for the browser to see about clearing cookies and there was option for Desktop site. Clicked that, and all good. No idea what I did to begin with ... LOL

Chromebooks (laptops) are misclassified, forced into Mobile view and can't exit

Hi!

I'm a ChromeOS fan, pretty much every device I use is a Chromebook. But very recently, the forum config here changed and treats ChromeOS devices as if they are mobile devices (which, they're not).

Can you please fix the logic to treat Chromebooks as actual computers, or at least add a method to exit Mobile view?

Personally, I really hate mobile view, even on mobile. It removes a lot of useful info, and makes it difficult to navigate posts. But now the "never use mobile view" feature also appears to be broken.

Thanks!

Zorak Sep 11, 2022 11:22 am

I regularly use a Chromebook to read FT and am not forced to use the mobile skin. IME once in a blue moon I end up in the mobile view after I use Google to search for site:flyertalk.com plus some search term and the indexed page for whatever reason is the mobile view.

You can switch back by clicking here:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/prof...ons&styleid=24

and setting your view back to "Use Forum Default"

or append ?styleid=24 or &styleid=24 to any FT URL in the browser bar (depending on whether it already has any CGI params)

Chrome 105.0.5195.102 display issues

My apologies if this is already addressed but I didn't find anything. A couple days ago using Chrome version listed in title the display layout of Flyertalk went to a very basic, almost looks like should be a mobile display. If I load Flyertalk into Edge it looks normal. What happened with Chrome and any way to fix the display layout? Very frustrating trying to switch between forms and jump to end of a thread as new posts are last in the list where as have always been in reverse order with newest at top for me. I am unable to do anything about the Chrome version as it is corporate managed on this laptop and they don't like us using other browsers.

I moved your post here, as it's most likely what you're experiencing. Please see the wiki and it should help resolve the problem.
