It is and I applied the link in first post and it fixed it. Thank you.

You can switch back by clicking here:

and setting your view back to "Use Forum Default"

or append ?styleid=24 or &styleid=24 to any FT URL in the browser bar (depending on whether it already has any CGI params)

Thanks for this info and the link to reset it back to normal! I just had the same problem after coming to the forum via Google.

Is it possible to just nuke the whole stupid ?styleid thing? I find this is happening more and more often lately with links I follow from Google, and the only way to fully reset it on mobile* is to clear cookies, which then requires signing in again...

It doesn't consume a massive amount of time, but each time it happens, it's another minute of my life wasted for a "feature" that doesn't add any value.

*Using ?styleid=22 does reset it to mobile version, but after doing that, requesting desktop mode does not work unless and until cookies are cleared. It will just show an oddly proportioned version of the mobile site

I'm not quite sure what you mean by nixing the styleid, but in the mobile menu, you should now see an option to switch to the desktop mode and then if you do that, you get an option to go back to the mobile site at the bottom of the page.

If anyone is reading this in mobile mode against their volition, you can click on this direct link to the desktop version of the "Edit Options" page: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/prof...ons&styleid=24 where you can change the Forum Skin (2nd item under "Miscellaneous Options" near the bottom) to "Use Forum Default"

Thank you!

Just happened to me for the first time--didn't see any option to change back to desktop--used the styleid link to get back to normal. Thankfully I knew about this thread!

forums look completely different in different browsers

Why do the forums look completely different in different browsers? The one on the left is Chrome. The one on the right is Edge. Is one the new version and one the old version? The version in Edge (the right side) is the one I am most familiar with. The version in Chrome (the left side) is very difficult to navigate...

One is in desktop mode, the other mobile mode.

Mine just toggled to mobile mode and I don't know how to turn it back...

Is this true for others too?

How to get back old website style?

It seems that this forum had very recently changed to a new format that seems to be suited for phones, not a PC browser. Is there any setting that can be done to get the old style back?

I think your post was merged into this thread, if you didn't realise, the answer is upthread.

FriendlySkies May 26, 2023 11:39 am

Thanks to a prior poster who suggested adding "?styleid=24" to the end of the URL. I got stuck on the mobile thread now (it sucks, IB) and was able to switch back with the above trick.

Unwanted Mobile View on Mobile Devices

Recently while using my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablet and my iPhone 13 the site information displayed when opening Flyertalk changed and I'm seeing what I think is the mobile version of the site. I didn't make any changes, it just changed on its on for both my Android and AppIe OS devices. I found this post

How can I always "View Full Site" and NOT Mobile site?
from several years ago that details how to disable the mobile skin although when I follow the listed steps there is no menu to select Desktop/Full View, or Mobile display. The view I see on my mobile devices eliminates some useful forum information but also completely eliminated all advertising (that part I like).

I'd like to get back to a full view as the view I'm seeing is not very useful when following threads. Details on how to change to full site on my mobile devices would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi! If you are stuck in the mobile version of the site, click the three lines at the top left and then click "View Desktop Site". To switch back from desktop to mobile, there is a large green button all the way at the bottom of the page.

I found the fix listed at the top of the thread which worked but I do not see the "View Desktop Site" in the drop down menu of the three bar Top Left Menu.

Thanks for getting me straightened out.

Today, the site threw me into the appalling mobile skin!

Thankfully, I found this thread on google.

Desktop suddenly switched to mobile layout, can't figure out how to go back

Hi,

out of nowhere, my destop FT just switched to Mobile layout. I don't have a "Use desktop version" button, because I am on a desktop.

How do I go back?

It seems vey odd to me that the Edit Options page, where one could choose to switch the skin back, is different - and missing the choice of skins in the mobile version. IBJoel , since this question seems to come up so often, any chance of getting that fixed? I myself fell in to this trap on my desktop a few minutes ago, and spent a very frustrating 10 minutes trying to get out of it.

SamirD Oct 4, 2024 1:07 am

It's been almost exactly three years now. I think if a quick fix was possible it would have already been implemented.

this is one of my favorite threads.

SPN Lifer Jan 19, 2025 3:50 pm

But not when it happens to you! Or its opposite.

I changed my cell phone to desktop view so I could add a Wikipost. Never again.

I almost stopped using FT for a week. :(

I don't remember anymore how I resolved this, but it may have involved deleting and reinstalling my DuckDuckGo browser. :o

Is there a thread or solution for the opposite, cellphone switched to desktop view, and can't switch back to mobile view? I asked the same question in the Wikipost, and will edit it if solved.

[Note: the below is speculative, extrapolated from the mobile-to-desktop case; if you actually run into this and try one or both solutions please update with the results! -- Z.]

I would try the same thing except that mobile skin is styleid=22

There may be a down side in that I vaguely recall that if you submitted the "edit options" dialog in mobile mode, it also resets the editor to the simple/basic editor (no font/color/bullet point/etc controls)

So it might be preferable to visit the options page in desktop mode (for example via the link in the wiki), find the "Forum Skin" section (it's right below the editor, as it turns out) and switch from "FT Desktop NG" to "Mobile One"

Clicking the link at the top of the thread fixed it instantly.

Is there maybe a way we could just have a button on both skins that could switch this?

It happens all the time for me now. I think I've seen this with other sites before, my gut feeling is there's a link floating around somewhere (maybe on google? some forum thread? etc.?) from a mobile or desktop user that has something in the URL that causes the forum software to switch themes when you visit the page.

There is. If you're displaying full site on mobile, scroll to the very bottom of the page (easiest on non-thread pages) and click the big green button.

If you're on mobile skin on desktop, open the 3-line menu in the upper left and select "View Full Site"

It happens to me which I follow links from Google search results which happen to be to the mobile version of FlyerTalk. Sometimes, even a link in a FlyerTalk post will be to the mobile version and mess up the desktop view.

This frequently happens to me with Wikipedia links in Google

Ahhh I think this explains a lot. I actually routinely, instinctively look for that link on most sites, because it does happen quite a lot. There's a bit of an odd issue with the desktop skin, where I suspect on some window sizes/browsers/systems, the link to switch to desktop appears or disappears. For my usual scaling and browser (on desktop), a link only appears if i resize the window so it's narrow, and then I see "View Desktop Site" show up in the hamburger menu.

I also see a "view full site" button in the skin source somewhere, but I didn't immediately figure out how to get it to show up and didn't find it on the page with ctrl+f, but maybe I missed something else.
