Silver Fox's like is recorded but mine is not in the above example. I've exited this page and then returned and the same "The following users liked this post:" is shown.

David

Congrats on receiving 1 like on 0 posts (under your username). How is this possible?

Took a good thing and ruined it. No need for a separate box to show the likes. Should have just left it in the post.

Very much agree. I have never liked seeing that on other forums either.

Well something's happening. mileageking now has hundreds of likes. 24left has twice as many as me. 2 to my 1.

Edit: Weird. Mine says "Received 1 Like on 4,436 Posts". But the 4436 are my posts that have received at least one like. So by definition, I should have at least 4436, right?

Please clear your cache/cookies. There should not be "Double Likes" appearing. Likely it was just an issue while both systems were turned on at once.

Which "like" system should we see going forward?

Regarding the separate box for likes: I'm seeing if that's possible to disable or accommodate in some way.

For those who were claiming "it wasn't broken". It was. Multiple users reported the "ARG:Undefined" error persisting for weeks. It was also a custom plug-in that was becoming outdated. We updated it to the standard VB software for the feature.

Appreciate you looking into this! Would love to keep the old like format if possible!

It's still in the process of updating I believe, everyones numbers have been going up over the course of the afternoon

Yes, I've just been informed that the backend is still running some "recounters"

I was definitely getting this on some of my likes, though not all. Some would go away then come back with the ARG:Undefined and sometimes it didn't happen.

Glad it is being fixed.

It took a few years, but IB finally has a Like button that matches the other buttons. Yay.

...and they promptly make up for it by adding huge amounts of screen real estate for separate tallies of likes below every post that anyone likes. Sigh.

the good, the bad, the ugly, and the weird ...

I may be an old curmudgeon, but I don't see *why* is it necessary to publicize how many Likes anyone has given and/or received

I wanted to like this but it would just compound the problem

@IBJoel, from a UI design perspective, one wants users to get as deep into the UI as possible with as few scrolls or hyperlinks as possible. Fixing the ARG issue by adding a separate box that takes up 25% more real estate...that is NOT a good UI design.

At the very least, please see if the developers can remove the line break/adjust the column width of "The following users liked this post" so that if 5 or fewer folks like a post, the space taken up is 1 line as opposed to 2.

Please pass these suggestions along to your development team.

EDIT: Team for your information why IB may be collecting/posting this info, normally software companies collect patterns (whether its sales patterns, site visit patterns/site click or like patterns). The collect this info then use it to push appropriate information (normally marketing) back to the user. For example, if Jen likes Joes stuff, and we push X marketing material to Joe, we should push to Jen too.

And, often they aggregate the data that's collected and sell it to a 3rd party. The more data they can link together, the better 'story' or insight they can glean into us. The internet isn't free. Companies make BIG money selling our collected data to aggregators, which they in turn sell this data to product companies, which then use this info as a potential client listing, and they push marketing material on us.
