ARCHIVE: Disruptive 2020 Ads on Mobile Devices
 

Same as the previous posters: on Safari for macOS, I'm treated to a near-constant barrage of scam Norton browser hijack ads. It's especially galling because I took a four-month break from FT, and this is what I come back to.

The managers really need to invest in an ad whitelisting service. Yes, they're expensive, but if this is the alternative, you can see why people choose to pay.

I understand the importance of ad's to support a site like this - but some of the ad's (especially on the mobile version) are a little too intrusive and you cant close them or easily return to what you were looking at...... and typically congratulating me on winning some google award, or getting a gift card by spinning a wheel, or asking to download some flash update.....

I know this is not the place to express this - but such ads in a place like this are the perfect way to turn people off......

To this topic I will add (hope I'm not off topic) that in the past week, I've seen several popups that insist that I need to download new drivers. That is clearly borderline-malicious phishing going on. This may be beyond the ability of FT to control - as this can happen due to the content that advertisers are injecting into the browser data stream. But it's still bad. And I would suggest that FT put those advertisers on notice. Or simply ban them.

Those pop-ups aren't legitimate ads. They're some kind of mild infection. Close the tab you have FT open in and open a new one and they should stop for a while.

Been a problem for a few weeks. Bad enough I’ve had do delete the browser app altogether and start from scratch. Randy would have never allowed this.

they are similar to some of the ones that I encounter on various "trash gossip " sites...but very surprised to see them here

somehow unique to FT only though.

I've suffered from the same kind of malware on several forums over the years. It's happened here on Flyertalk a couple of times before, too.

These have been happening for years on FT. There is a thread to report such popups.

On my MacBook Pro I only seem to get them when I use Safari. For the past few days I’ve used Safari on my iPad and haven’t had any come up. I have reported these on the other thread mentioned. They were becoming enough of an issue that I was considering taking a vacation from FT.

i was getting these pop ups routinely last year but they seem to have disappeared for me

Thanks guys. Please post a screenshot of every suspicious pop-up/redirect you get. I will report all these.

I keep getting this one myself on a MacBook using macOS Catalina v. 10.15.2 and Safari v. 13.0.4.

It makes this site somewhat unusable.
