part of the problem is that once they pop-up, it is impossible to close them and get back to where you were....need to completely shut down the browser and restart....

very variable.......

but these are the types of ads that pop-up on some of the trash gossip sites - rarely do I experience them on cnn/guardian/etc-major sites.

https://www.switchingtomac.com/tutor...safari-on-mac/

See section 2 "Tweak The Hosts File To Restrict Access To Websites In Safari On Mac"

The bogus page will still try to load, but instead you'll just get an error message from Safari that the site is unavailable and tap of the back button will take you right back to the page you were previously on.

ANOTHER one.
All I did was "like" another FT users post. Thats it. Boom immediate redirect and takeover.
Pure trash. FT, do better.

Screenshot, not that anyone at FT actually cares about fixing this issue.

Today, all I wanted to do was look at this very thread on this hijack attack, and I was immediately hijacked.

This is not a browser problem, and it is not a user problem. I am not seeing this happen on ANY OTHER WEBSITE. This is a problem with FlyerTalk and the advertisers that the site is supporting.

If this continues more than another day or two, I shall delete my bookmark for ever.

IBJoel Jan 7, 2020 1:43 pm

I continue to report these as you do. I've been told that we should be upgrading our security software soon.

I browse FT a lot on my work PC with Google Chrome and haven't had any of these problems (though our internal company network is EXTREMELY restrictive). However, I think tonight I'm going to install Chrome on my MBP and see what happens. I hope it's not a Safari specific issue because I really don't wanna switch browsers.

This is sort of a new variation with the transparency...

Been getting variations on these only on FlyerTalk for the past few weeks, though they're getting increasing frequency and sometimes intermixed with a Norton Subscription. Also accompanied with an obnoxious 1kHz (ish) tone.

I'm using a Windows 10 Laptop in Virginia, US (using Edge) at the moment, but have also seen variations on Windows 10 desktop (Edge) and Windows 7 (IE 11) in Ohio, US

At the risk of jinxing things, my browser hasn't redirected from FT since two days ago. Did the problem get fixed?

Ditto. Although I was unplugged overnight, so I assumed that was why. Hope it's solved.

Day three without redirects!!

IBJoel Jan 13, 2020 8:20 am

Like I said, we DO report all of these to our software people haha. It just takes a lot of instances/data points to nail this stuff down.
