CCPA Compliance, Cookie consent, issues
The new cookie consent interrogation that went live today is a serious pain in the proverbial, especially if your browser is set to clear itself on exit. Is this extended version strictly necessary?
Maybe it's an in-the-EU thing... It doesn't seem work to too well on Android either. |

Thanks. Is that because that is where FT is hosted, irrespective of where the user is?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's correct.
I am still having problems with this new dialogue box on my mobile (Android 10). On opening FT, if I don't manage to immediately scroll down quickly enough to hit the blue accept button on the previous grey cookies dialogue box (which still comes up as well), the new white dialogue box appears over the top of that and freezes. I can't change any settings in it or scroll down to hit accept. So I have to exit the site and try to be quicker next time... Now I know I could just never clear my browser cache for this to be a one time problem, but it's still a problem. Any ideas how to correct this? Thanks!! |

Why not allow users to set all their cookie and privacy preferences in their profiles? My country of residence is already stored there for compliance reasons. |

Same for me today, accessing FT on a PC for the first time this week. Windows 19, Firefox 79.0. The workaround involved going to a non-forum part of FT and responding rapidly. Not an acceptable level of usability by any stretch.
. Had to use Chrome just to be able to log in and post this. |

I have exactly the same problem using Win 10 with Firefox 79.0 (the latest version). It does not allow me to select any of the buttons on the splash screen and in effect I cannot access the forum.

For the past couple of years FT has served me a GPDR notice whenever my IP address suggests that I'm in the EU. Why not allow users to set all their cookie and privacy preferences in their profiles? My country of residence is already stored there for compliance reasons. I tried the same on Win10/FF and it worked OK. |

Can you guys try bypassing your cache to see if that works on the buttons working? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe......_your_cache
I tried the same on Win10/FF and it worked OK. Having to use Chrome again just to respond to your post. |

I know IB's Office is in El Segundo. I also know that Nolo, an IB brand, is based in Berkeley. How about FlyerTalk? Using the same El Segundo address? |

As a reminder, if I start on https://www.flyertalk.com/ I can access the buttons. But if I use my bookmark to access my preferred starting page (https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php) the white overlay is broken. Let me know, here or via PM, if further details or screenshots would help. |

Thanks for sticking with this, IBJoel.

For completeness, I've also tried completely disabling my adblocker. That doesn't help either (and makes everything load so much more slowly that it wouldn't be an acceptable permanent solution anyway). Yes, please attach a screenshot. I cannot replicate, but I'll report to tech. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...78be27f4a4.png Not pretty but very much what I've been seeing, with the white hovering box fixed and neither it nor the underlying page scrollable. Hope this helps. |
Any update on this?
FT continues to be easy to use if I access it from an IP address that's assumed to be in the US, but from outside it really is a royal pain with several extra steps: 1. Go to a non-forum FT page; 2. Wait for the top part of the white box to appear, then click on (or near) "manage settings" to try and coax the bottom part of the box to reveal itself; 3. Make my cookie choices; 4. Click to ackowledge and dismiss the "preferences submitted" message; 5. Go to my normal log-in page and proceed as before. TrustArc is not user-friendly at the best of times, but other sites have implemented it with fewer steps and no glitches. |

If I go directly to https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php the white box appears with buttons (including the Save and Exit, Reject All and Accept All buttons at the bottom of the page), but none of them are clickable - every button is dead. The Manage Settings link is also dead. However, if I go to https://www.flyertalk.com/ then all of those buttons work. This means that I must go to the home page first, do the cookies stuff and only then can I go to https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php. I am usually using Chrome on Windows 10 Pro, but I get the same behaviour with either IE or Edge. However, when I use Firefox and go directly to https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php, the white box appears in full and the buttons work. I have also encountered a similar problem if I'm trying to read a longer thread when not logged in. The white box floats somewhere above the top of the page that's being displayed. However, if I scroll up towards the white box, the previous part of the thread loads and the white box floats up and out of sight again. It makes me feel like I'm suffering the punishment meted out to Sisyphus. |

Are you getting the same-looking box as IMH? Does your cache clear upon exiting your browser?
All sessions should start with a clean browser and an empty cache because it'll always be in private/incognito mode. |
getting the same issue. Chrome on Windows 10.

Me too - exactly the same. Real pain and so badly designed. On no other website I use here in Europe is the cookie permission tab so large and so intransigent / obtrusive: quite OTT.
|
I've requested a re-design of that window, with the focus on making it smaller.

If you guys aren't running any browser extensions and don't want to keep cookies, I'm really at a loss. We haven't actually been able to reproduce this error, so a size change is just about all I can think of personally. But hopefully tech will have some ideas.

The only arguably non-standard thing that I do on my own machines is to run a Hosts file. But this is not present on the virtual machine that I've now tested (with the same result), so that would seem to exclude that as a reason for the links not working. |
I've just tried loading https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php on an iPad (iPadOS 14.0, Firefox 28.2 (2470)).
The TrustArc / TRUSTe component appears to load fully, but is dead -- i.e. none of the options can be selected or changed and the page as a whole cannot be submitted/saved. The iPad was 'clean' -- advertising identifier reset and Firefox cookies etc. cleared. My IP address indicated (correctly) that I'm in Germany. If I use just "flyertalk.com" as my starting address, the overlay functions as intended. |
I'll have tech re-test with a specifically EU VPN. They used a UK one last time and I am not sure if that effects anything for them (Globaliser, I do see your location states "London") considering the recent split. I'll also double check to make sure they were going directly to flyertalk.talk/forum and I'll see if they can test on iPad. It's not a ton different from what they did (or should have done), but maybe that will dig up something.
Actually, I'll also see if they can give me the ability to get an EU IP, since I'm now running a VPN for work-from-home. If they can, maybe I can trigger the bug where they can't. |

A new variant of the problem has appeared this morning, using Chrome on Win 10 Pro.
Going to flyertalk.com/forum/usercp.php produces a full-size box, but all the links are dead. So the box can't be cleared and the FT content can't be accessed. Going to flyertalk.com produces a small box that shows only the first line ("Required cookies"). It is not possible to scroll down this box, so the links to accept or reject cookies can't be reached. Without being able to do that, the FT content can't be accessed. I dimly remembered a third behaviour that occurs when using the link sent out in thread activity emails. I went to https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/show...8&goto=newpost - and fortunately, this produced a full-size box with active links, so that I could then log in and post this. Yes, I know that I could switch to an alternative browser instead, but Chrome isn't exactly a minority sport. This ought to be capable of working properly! |

I've experienced similar problems today using Firefox and Edge. Getting here to write this took me several minutes. I finally managed it by accessing this thread directly from a Google search. What browser does IB recommend? Apparently not Chrome, Firefox or Edge. |
Yep, same here.
FT now totally unusable in Chrome and Edge. |
