Very slow loading of pages on flyertalk.com and forums

Is anyone seeing very slow loading of pages on flyertalk? Pretty much any page takes so long that my browser wants to close the tab. I'm seeing this on Chrome and IE. I see a lot of messages in the status bar about "waiting for secure.adnxs.com" which I think is some kind of tracker. I can't see the other sites because they go by too quickly.

See this: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...g-reports.html

You're not alone...

Smid Feb 13, 2018 9:20 am

I am having the same problems, less so on IE but it is unreadable on chrome on multiple OS's. I had to stop a script from running on IE to get to post this.

Basically this website is done for me until you can fix it. Unreadable and certainly can't access things like my flyertalk.

I downloaded chrome ad block extension and it solved the problem immediately.

I *really*, *really* didn't want to do this, but blocker also fixed the problem on my desktop immediately. IB needs to do something about their ads that keep you from using this site!!! I am also on mobile and will look for something for that.

IB, please, please do a better job of presenting ads that don't interfere with using your website!!

Boggie Dog Feb 13, 2018 9:38 am

So this usability issue, should be called not usable, is due to the recent upgrades to FT which did nothing but make FT a less user friendly place.

Thanks FT.

IBJoel Feb 13, 2018 9:43 am

Hi guys, I've alerted our Ad Ops, and they're working on a fix (they were able to immediately reproduce it).

IBJoel Feb 13, 2018 9:45 am

Is everyone seeing the same "Adnxs" that's trying to load?

Smid Feb 13, 2018 9:47 am

I'm not sure on all cases but most of them it was that, yes.

Yes on desktop. I can't see what's happening on mobile. Would be nice to have the same status bar.

gobluetwo Feb 13, 2018 9:51 am

Yes, it is "waiting for secure.adnxs.com" on Chrome and FF, also "transferring data from rtb.districtm.io" on FF.

Yes, and a couple of others but that one seems to be the really slow one and it keeps re-trying

kevincrumbs Feb 13, 2018 10:21 am

Just chiming in with another data point in regards to this annoying "waiting for secure.adnxs.com" message. I get it both on Chrome and Mozilla while on a Windows 10 machine. I finally had to download AdBlocker just to be able to get here to read/post about it, so the message trying to guilt me into not using AdBlocker just cracks me up.

gooselee Feb 13, 2018 10:21 am

Same here. Adnxs also seemed to be the common redirect.

In Chrome on desktop, site would just load forever and time out.
In Chrome on Android, site would kind of load, and then Chrome would entirely crash.

I enabled the chrome://flags/#enable-framebusting-...or-usergesture flag and that seems to have made things slightly better on desktop, but mobile continues to crash.

Unfortunately this means I won't be using FT until this gets fixed.

sddjd Feb 13, 2018 11:21 am

Same here- "waiting for adnxs.com". Oh well, unfortunately another site that's placed a higher importance on click counts and popups & add-ins that the user base.

zitsky Feb 13, 2018 11:43 am

Found Firefox with AB works on mobile. I can view FT. Still no luck with mobile Chrome. IB I'm willing to see ads but not if they prevent me from accessing the site.

kennycrudup Feb 13, 2018 11:46 am

I had to login via a browser with an ad-blocker built in just to be able to get the site to load completely so I could post a message about this. It's been like this for at least two days now, stuck on loading those two advertising sites.

I get it- ads keep the lights on, so I never use ad-blockers, and just ignore the ads. But now that FT is unusable in its current state, I offer "Congrats" to the FT admins, as your site alone has changed my opinion and today marks the first time I'll be installing an ad-blocker on my browsers.

One easy way you could help us is by disabling your AdBlocker. The funding from our sponsors helps us invest back into FlyerTalk to improve your experience.

FlyerTalk is special to us, and we want to make it special for you too.

Thank you so much,
The FlyerTalk Team
Hrmph. Since there's multiple reports over several days about "adnxs.com" stalling and nobody at FT seems to care, y'all only have yourselves to blame for the dead golden goose.

gernabae Feb 13, 2018 12:04 pm

Same sad issue here, sudden total drop in site quality. Had to install an ad-blocker on Chrome just to get in here and register a complaint.

Happy to turn the blocker off once the error is confirmed fixed, as ads are a way of internet life, but this is really too much. The longer it goes, the more I'm convinced that they are working on a solution to ensure all this back-end ad delivery is corrected and not an immediate stand-down of the service in question to keep the site running and usable.

It's Secure adnsx. Reset your browser.

Dublin_rfk Feb 13, 2018 12:12 pm

Five times the thread restarted with 'flyertalk.com is not responding due to long running script' before I could post this

Boggie Dog Feb 13, 2018 12:17 pm

I'm still having the problem when using Chrome but Edge seems to be working ok. Chrome freezes when trying to go anywhere on FT. Can't even see the ads.

1P Feb 13, 2018 12:18 pm

We had the adnxs problem a year or so ago. It was slow-loading ads back then, and took ages to fix, and apparently it's the same issue now. I have an ad-blocker built in to my antivirus (and can't disable it, despite the requests from the FT team that display instead), so I am not having any problems myself, even with Chrome.

Same here. The site crashed or locked up Chrome / Mac OS and locked up Safari pretty badly. This has been happening for 48 hours. I'm surprised I can get in here to post this.

I'm surprised this has been allowed to go on for 48 hours.

flyer4512 Feb 13, 2018 12:48 pm

Ad block extension works.............just google it and install

From what I can tell, it's been more like 18 hours. We are working on it!

kalderlake Feb 13, 2018 1:04 pm

Same for me.

Pulled out an old phone running an old version of Chrome and it's working fine.

TIA for the fix--if nothing else this reminded me how much time I spend on FT.

ursine1 Feb 13, 2018 1:52 pm

Unable to access for the last day and a half -- site would lockup any browser on my desktop and laptop (both Mac). Finally working now.

zitsky Feb 13, 2018 2:13 pm

Working for me so I will go back to ads. But IB, I really think you need to do a better job of screening ads in the first place!

As a user I would agree more with the 48+ hour assessment as I started noticing this over the weekend and all through yesterday (I was at jury duty, so tried multiple times to do some FT browsing).

It's not uncommon for me to be on a slow connection or there to be one rogue script or something that makes FT not load, but then an hour or two later I can access it just fine. So I don't look for/comment on the "bug" threads until/unless the issue has been around for at least a day or so in different access situations - at which point I start to think it's a FT issue and not my personal issue. And of course it's currently taking forever just to be able to post comments. I'm certain other folks find themselves in a similar pattern so the first reports of issues can be delayed from when they actually started happening.

Not trying to argue - just offering my personal explanation in case a better understanding of timeline is helpful. Thank you for your efforts to get things fixed!

No idea what it was, but it was horrible. Finally just closed out the site.

Don't know if it's fully fixed, but just now, I was able to open this right away, and that was "different" from before, definitely.

In fact I alerted you to the problem on Safari for Mac OS over on February 7 in the desktop issues thread. It’s the exact same problem.

wheresmybagba Feb 13, 2018 2:28 pm

The endless game of FT whackanadmole continues! I thought 2018 was going to bring a solution?

It's definitely been an issue since the weekend, so, about 48 hours for me at a minimum.

Agree -- I am also getting occasional weird short bursts of autoplay audio, like something is trying to launch and being stopped, when on a page for longer than 60 seconds or so.

IBobi Feb 13, 2018 3:12 pm

We did not experience the issue until yesterday, nor did the vast majority of those reporting it; perhaps there was a Safari-limited or otherwise edge case prior to that.

Oxnardjan Feb 13, 2018 3:18 pm

Thank you! I sent an email and Joel sent me an email that they were working on it, came back after lunch and Voila! I am back to one of my favorite forums. Thanks for the fix, Worth every penny I pay for this wonderful forum, (tongue in cheek).

Caused me to install an ad blocker so I could read the site. Someone tell advertisers that is counter productive to their goals.

Same here. You are right!

allset2travel Feb 13, 2018 8:20 pm

Pls suggest an Adblocker for FF & Chrome. TIA
This took almost 4 minutes to type!
Horrible!

elleana Feb 13, 2018 10:10 pm

Wasn't working for me yesterday, working fine now. I don't think its an issue with ads per se, just a buggy ad script (which could happen to anyone!)
