We apologize for the bad ads. We hope in the new year to have a solution that handles them more proactively and quickly. Thank you for your patience!

The constant requests to advertising servers are still happening, and crashing my PC. I reported the issue in 2017 here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29141579-post477.html
Please fix this urgently. |
As clearly indicated in the Wikipost at the top of the page:
Posts advocating, suggesting, or recommending use of ad blocking etc. software will be summarily deleted. |

browser history when i get the constant ad redirects that hijack flyertalk on my mobile the amazon gift card redirects on my mobile device happen to me every visit to this flyertalk. my images are same as those in the end of the 2017 thread ONLY happens on this site, no others. only on mobile device, not desktop Chrome history shows the last flyertalk thread which became the amazon prize redirect, wth a weird 3rd party address in my browser history this has got to go. i understand the site owners need to make $ from ads but this is not the way to do it. one of them must be an intentional misspelling of google syndication because it's tpc.googlesyncdication.com |
I can't post screenshots because most of the time I don't see the ad but rather have it BLASTING SOUND out at me. I don't even need to be near my PC when this happens. Only on FT.
And only on FT does my screen freeze up constantly...I mean constantly. I have to close and reopen if I want to do any hopping around. |
For me they seemed to go away for a while but are back much worse than before. The fake Amazon contest is most frequent but the "your phone is badly damaged one" comes up occasionally as well. They're so bad that the site is almost unusable for me on mobile devices.
|
It's gotten even worse. I now can't even look at the threads listed in a forum without getting the fake Amazon redirect. So the mobile site is unusable for me with Chrome on a mobile device.
|
I am sorry I was unable to read any of the previous posts on this issue as it took me 10 tries just to get here without a pop up. Every other time I open a flyertalk thread I either get the Amazon ad or the your device is severely damaged one. I'm on a Samsung S7 using Chrome
|
And unfortunately it's apparently against the rules to even suggest a solution... go figure
It's becoming abundantly clear to me that not only does nobody care, they approve of these ads. Ridiculous. |

Yeah. I'm using a computer now. I've tried probably more than a dozen times today and can't even scroll through a single page using a mobile device without getting one of the ads that kick me off to a fake Amazon site. The site is unusable from a mobile device for me until this is fixed. Considering I'm going on a transcon tomorrow and will only have phones and an iPad I guess no FT for a while unless it gets fixed. I've in iOS and have tried both Chrome and Safari. |

Load chrome://flags/#enable-framebusting-needs-sameorigin-or-usergesture in the browser's address bar. Switch the status of the "Framebusting requires same-origin or a user gesture" experimental flag from default to enabled. Restart the Chrome browser. |
I'm also getting the fake amazon redirect using my iPad. I can't even use FT on because it comes up so quickly.
I was also getting it on Tivocommunity on my iPad, but the admins there were able to get the ad company to stop them. It has rendered FT completely unusable unless I'm on my desktop. |

Thanks, but I just tried 12 times to cut that so I could paste in on my iPad and couldn't do it without getting kicked out of FT. I'll try mailing it to my iPad and doing it that way. So I mailed it to my iPad and added it to the URL bar and that "Framebusting requires same-origin or a user gesture" doesn't come up. Bunch of other experimental settings but not that one. |
Thank you that seems to have fixed it sorry I posted this in the wrong thread but I was having trouble getting anything to open.
|
Interestingly, the Framebusting comes up on my desktop as an option but I don't see it on my iPad. I even searched for it on the flag search on the iPad. It says it doesn't find it. It did on the desktop.
|
i JUST HAD THIS POP UP xml.plainmedia.com with a warning from AVAST from HTML:RedirME-inf (Trj).
http://xml.plaimedia.com/nlp/index.p.../s0u.kiho.gdn/ This could be the culprit needs to be checked. |
Just "upgraded" to a new ipad yesterday and cannot use FT on it because every time I go to any forum page there is a fake Amazon popup. Have tried all sorts of tinkering with settings but to no avail.
When the popup comes up, the address bar changes to norwegianreward.top. The only way out is to close the tab. |

One for desktop and one for mobile browsers which I didn’t notice until now and I’ve been posting on the wrong one. But reading previous posts looks like I wasn't the only one. These threads should be merged. |
Does FT really need ads running for things like Xiaflex. No screen print but went to Omni and the ad across top of the page discusses a mans medical condition involving curves of greater than 30 degrees.
Not sure what is going on with FT but certainly seems to be headed in the wrong direction. |

I don't want to know what you've been googling. Nothing that would have pulled an add like that. Seems IB allows ads of all kinds. That's the problem not what I've googled. |
I find all these ads disruptive, years ago when these board and community was established we never had this type of B.S. I am getting all typs of please wait connecting to some bullsheet site to get the next disruptive add.
|
Autoplay videos
The new ads with sound are pretty darn disruptive! Do those count? And are they permitted? They certainly aren't by me. I started boycotting CNN over this issue and never looked back. Are we supposed to only read Flyertalk on mute now?

Here's a screenshot (but no ad, per se). Macbook Pro High Sierra using Chrome. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7e69a9186c.png |
You can easily add an exclusion in Chrome to block Flash and Java from [*.]flyertalk.com and that has ended all of the malicious pop-ups on my computer. Unfortunately there is not such and easy fix in iOS and Safari
In Chrome you will find this under settings>privacy and security> content settings |

There's one shown in the video (0:00) in post #2 of this thread so I figured it was common/allowed!

Hmm I can't really tell what the ad is for from this, which is what I need in order to ask for it to be blocked.

It's too bad FT doesn't have any interest in making the user experience bearable for us. As a former webmaster, I swore I'd never use anything to prevent ads from loading - that's how a site makes its money, after all. But FT has gotten out of hand (ok, that happened long ago). But more importantly, there have been no real steps taken to ameliorate this problem. As of today, all of my devices get this interesting new message when I visit (and everything runs much more smoothly):
Did you know? The FlyerTalk team works very hard to keep the site free for you and provide the best possible content. Can you help us?One easy way you could help us is by disabling your AdBlocker. The funding from our sponsors helps us invest back into FlyerTalk to improve your experience. FlyerTalk is special to us, and we want to make it special for you too. Thank you so much, The FlyerTalk Team |

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...492d8db199.png Just some of the random self-playing ads I get every day. And they're really loud too! |

Yeah I figured. It's whatever uses those players. I'll keep my eyes peeled the next time it happens!
Last night it autoplayed “You can buy a home with as little as” and then stopped. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...cd82d7fdf0.png Today it autoplayed “Did you know you.” So it seems to realize it shouldn't be playing after a few seconds! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e14ef579ef.pngAnd here's a third offender (I think): Subaru. It only played half a second of music. Can we ban that stupid video player??? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...eed1abea6f.png |
What's odd about the audio ads is that I only ever hear a one-second snippet of sound before it cuts out. Doesn't seem related to the right-rail ad that's visible, either.

What's not allowed - autoplay video ads, or autoplay video ads with sound? B/c I get a ton of autoplay video ads, but with the sound muted. Today, it's China Eastern and the Gloria Estefan Story musical.
