I could be wrong; but I believe that that extra space is to compensate for the new “sticky” menu bar for those FlyerTalk members who choose to keep Infinite Scroll activated, as that menu was blocking the top of the first unread message.

Ah, so we have to put up with an unwanted and annoying feature that's designed to compensate for an intrusion caused by another unwanted and annoying feature?

I have trouble simply going from one page to another much less trying to get back to the root forum. Then holy terror if I should need to edit a post before it has been uploaded. Moments ago I just lost another potential post and had to start over again.

When I travel, FT helps me in lots of ways but this new version complicates my access and participation.

Me too. It's simply too hard to try and compose a reply on my mobile (aka cell ;)), and the crazy auto-backscroll means that trying to read a thread is usually a futile exercise too. Net result is I'm doing less, which surely isn't the intended outcome.

Have you both disabled the infinite scroll default setting?

Disable Infinite Scroll

(know one from IB has explained why default is on)

Second this request.
Please reinstate "My FlyerTalk" Yellow Icon; hopefully visible on same screen as last post; above "Quick reply" box.

I agree, please reinstate the MY FLYERTALK as its own icon.

character formatting controls?

Probably I'm blind, but I cannot find the controls to make characters in a posting bold or italic or otherwise other than plain text. Same question about font size, although I don't envision ever changing it.

And like others here, I vote for the old presentation. The field in which I am composing this response is especially hard to read.

Go to My FlyerTalk >> Settings and Options >> Miscellaneous Options >> Message Editor Interface and select “Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing”. You’ll then be presented with what is essentially the legacy post editing control panel.

I use an iPad Air 2 to read and moderate. Changing my settings has kept the changes in control and allows me to continue using my iPad without pain.

I have added a Wikipost to List ways some previous settings can be selected, e.g. disabling infinite scroll, restoring WYSIWYG post editing, etc. Feel free to add...

Thank you. That works. But please read on. (BTW, the instructions are missing one step. It should be My FlyerTalk >> Settings and Options >> Edit Options >> Miscellaneous Options >> Message Editor Interface before selecting the editor.)

I had had the editor set to the highest level (Full CKEditor Editing, where I had not been seeing the controls since the new interface was introduced), and changed it to Full WYSIWYG Editing. Then I saw the controls.

Ordinarily I turn off Javascript to read FlyerTalk because that speeds things up considerably. With Javascript on, I get a narrow editing field that cannot be resized but does have easy-to-read text in the composition field. With Javascript off, I get a resizable field but with small, sans-serif type that is hard to read. Also, with Javascript off, the formatting controls do not work. (I don't recall if the formatting controls worked with Javascript turned off in the old interface. Maybe they didn't, then.)

With Javascript off, my response was condensed to one paragraph. Wherever I had a blank line to start a new paragraph, the editor replaced the two returns with two spaces. I'm back to the Full CKEditor Editing mode and manually entering character formatting.

Again, thanks for the response.

With the infinite scroll, this disappears soon as you scroll down to the first post below it, then resets the inifite scroll so you have to go all the way to the top to see it.

I have, but no idea if I'm getting enabled or disabled on the phone. It seems like a blend of both. I can scroll downwards to the next page, but not up to the previous one if I jump into a thread at its end. And I see a page number selector. That uncertainty is a part of my confusion and frustration.

Not sure why there is a red, clickable rectangle next to the new thread button. It appears to go to "Write a hotel review"
I feel like IB owes all of us a huge 'Thank you' for being your testers.

Disabling IS in your settings will affect the desktop full view only, whether you are seeing that on your computer or phone.

When you are viewing the mobile site, IS is automatic, there is no way around it.

To avoid IS on your phone you must go to your settings and select NEVER GO TO MOBILE SKIN. Then you will always view the forums (the home page is still mobile only) on the full view and you will not see IS at all, once you've disabled IS in your settings.

This is a bug we have reported. Try clearing your cache. If that doesn't work, let me know.

I blame you. It's a red button to push. :p

I used desktop mode on my phone before the upgrade. After I the increased CPU and I suspect memory consumption has made it unusable as it will crash every time.

If I'm seeing the right behaviour why can't I scroll upwards into a thread that I open at its end?

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

used to give the exact counts. Now it can be something like 1.2K - 4.7K.

That's not very useful. If you want to know whether there's a point in visiting a thread you read a short while ago again, it DOES matter whether there are 8 new posts or just 1.

And if you want to know if people are still monitoring a thread that you started, you now have to wait until it has received another 100 views. The "K" is redundant anyway when the count says 7.9.
