New post editor announcement, issues, bugs, etc.
re: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...lable-766.html
I don't personally object to trying something new, but...
... if I am correctly interpreting what this sentence intends to convey, then that's not what "opt in" means.

In the near future, we will automatically opt all users in to the new interface, so this is a good time to start taking advantage of the new editor.

Correction - greatly reduced functionality. So far, I see
It it was at least tested, that would be OK. But replacing something that works and is fast with something that's quite the opposite is just ludicrous.
- No font changes (either face or size).
- No indentation control.

Dear IB:
You recently did a poll asking FTers what they would like to see in FT - things like mobile, better search, like button, etc.
Could you please point out where people said they wanted a post editor w/ less functionality? Please - seriously, what # was it on the list? Honest to goodness, if you're going to 'enhance' stuff (you're beginning to remind me of the airlines), couldn't you at least test it w/ perhaps a focus group of FTers to get input - before you decide to force it upon everyone?
BTW - I agree. Making this feature standard for all users is NOT 'opting in'.
Cheers.

I'm also not finding the PHP or CODE tags, which were useful for pasting airline system content in, like fare displays, availability, etc
Code:
Looks like I can still type the CODE tags though.

This isn't as scary as it sounds, nor are the old editors ever going away. This is an option available to those who want a more modern editor. If they love the current old format editor - great, its still available.
- New CKEditor has been in vBulletin for more than a year
- It is a MyFlyerTalk individual opt-in option to activate, meaning that a user has to go in and change their settings, it's not automatically turned on for anyone.
- The new editor is more in line with 2016 editor standards, is a full WYSIWYG and comes with an AUTO-SAVE, which is definitely a nice to have feature.
- Eventually, instead of automatically setting the old editor as the default for brand new members, we will default them to the new editor - because most new users don't know how to format correctly with bbcode and are expecting certain base-level functionality - like CNTRL+B to Bold.

New editor
I don't mind the new editor, with one major exception. When I post something, the page does not auto-advance to MY POST. That will probably be the thing that sees me turning it off, till that's fixed.

New editor complaint: The near-full screen size of the popup when using smilies (wow, that term is a blast from the past) is really annoying. Haven't tried it in a mobile browser to see if the experience is any better/worse.
Also, the choice of emoji there is extremely limited. You should look to enhance with an updated set. That may be something that drives people to the new editor.
Though why you roll out a "new" editor with such limited capability is beyond me. There are literally dozens of things that the membership has asked for (based on your own recent survey). Really odd prioritization choices from IB management.

Bug?
When using the new post editor, once you hit "Post" there is hickup. The post editor reloads the post but removes all wysiwyg. Then there is a delay (one or a few seconds) and during this time it looks like the editor is still active and that the "Post" didn't work. Then the editor is removed and the thread is reloaded.

Thanks for the input, Rich. I've reported this to tech.
