The first unread button is only taking me to the top of the page that post is on.

If you clear your cache and cookies, and still have this issue, let us know what your device type and browser are, and if mobile are you using the skin or the full site.

seems alright for me now

Thoughts on this IBobi?

Glitch on replies

There's an odd glitch that's happened more than once now, so I'm sure it's not just me. If you are logged out and click to 'reply', then login via clicking the Facebook icon, it calls up the reply window but not in the thread you intended to reply to, resulting in a post that has nothing to do with the thread it pertained to.

It was reported early and tech are still working on it. I haven't seen any updates from them yet, but I did bump it yesterday :)

What the Heck?

I rarely, if ever access ft via mobile skin, but decided to try it today. Where the Heck did "my flyertalk" go?! I always use my flyertalk when accessing ft. How am I missing this important feature? Was it always missing or just due to recent update? Not having my ft on mobile makes mobile a piece of crap.

Cheers

I thought there was a fixed width theme before, but I take that's gone now?

There are a couple of other (now) documented Reply glitches occurring intermittently as well. Tech is working on these.

Thanks for the report, which will be merged into the 28 March update thread.

Jump to first unread post not working well

At least before the update, clicking on the box before a thread title in bold on the forum page resulting in going to the first unread/unseen post in the thread, which had a gold box rather than the pale blue box on the upper left.

Now when I try to do this, FT takes me to the top of the correct page of the thread, but all of the posts on the page have the pale blue box. (The following page is all gold boxes.)

I think it was still working as expected shortly after the latest update but changed about yesterday.

I'm using an iPad2 with Safari.

wrp96 Apr 7, 2016 9:51 am

I have the same thing happen, on both my iPad and on a desktop using Chrome. But not consistently. I've even had a few instances where it takes me to the first post in the entire thread.

MSPeconomist Apr 7, 2016 11:05 am

Just now the function worked well on one OMNI thread but didn't work on the "Visions of what FTers Look Like" (not the exact name) thread, where I had unread posts but when I clicked it took me to the last page, had all of them with the light blue box, and didn't have the "View First Unread" words in the upper left to enable me to click to the first unread post.

JDiver Apr 7, 2016 2:33 pm

Several related issues have been reported, including:
  • Quote to reply and Multi-Quote issues

  • Post New Reply or Quoting misposting

  • Not jumping to first thread unread post

  • Occasionally missing widgets / functions (e.g. Edit wikipost.

  • Etc.
These are generally intermittent and not easily replicated for troubleshooting, and may be confined to certain fora. This makes it harder to hunt the bugs down.

Tech has been made aware of these, they are documented in the wiki FAQ and Tech are working on these. Your reports help Tech home in on these.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. Is it on the list to be added? I (and others) really use My Flyertalk a lot.

(Sorry to be so cranky in my reporting the other night; I was tired).

Cheers.

The mobile skin has a ways to go in a lot of respects, and this is sure one of them. Still working on it...

Not only is this issue (not taking me to first unread post in a thread) getting worse but now I am having major issues getting to the full site vs the mobile skin on ipad using Safari.

In the past, when I would open FT, it would immediately take me to the mobile version (which I hate). Easy to get out of and going to the desktop version either via the address bar icon or clicking on 'view full site' in the page would take me to the full site but to the top of whatever page I was on. Hitting the page back button would take me to the exact post I was originally looking at but now in desktop rather than mobile, saving me from having to scroll down and find the post I was reading. But now, pressing the back arrow takes me right back to the mobile skin. Grrrr.

But now most annoyingly, on some threads, I can't even get to the full site no matter what I do. Pressing the address bar icon or clicking on 'view full site' just reloads the page exactly the same way, on the mobile skin. It happens always when clicking a link in a thread that references another thread or single post. The newly opened thread or post stays in mobile no matter what I do. But it is also happening randomly on other threads/posts as well. Most annoying as I loathe the mobile skin.

I'm using Safari as well. Iirc the cookie expires daily so I (usually) daily have to redirect from mobile skin to full site by scrolling down to the bottom and clicking / pressing "View Full Site". I'm not experiencing your problem, so I don't think it's universal.

In the SPG forum thread "Platinum but Recognized as Gold upon Arrival" <possibly not the exact title, but this should identity it> I'm having further and somewhat different trouble going to the first unread post. The thread is on the first page of the SPG forum and has had some new posts today, although I suspect that a moderator also added a new thread to it.

When I go into the thread by clicking on the blue box to jump to the first unread post, with the thread title showing in bold on the forum page so that it should contain one or more unread posts, it goes to the top of the thread, page 1 post #1. However, in the upper left of the thread, I see the words "View First Unread" <or whatever the exact terminology FT uses for this function>. When I click on these "View First Unread" words in the upper left of the top of the thread, the page re-loads but I see exactly the same thing: still on page 1 with posts from 2014 that *are* marked as read (light blue box rather than the gold colored one) and still the option to click on "First Unread Post." I've repeated this multiple times with exactly the same result.

This. Even clicking on first unread at the top of a page, it just reloads and takes me right back to the same post at the top of the page. I have to scroll way down to find the actual first unread post.

In my example, it didn't even jump to the right page.

The first unread post issue is being worked on by tech.

In the future, please post links to threads or posts I will need to look into -- I don't want to hunt and then guess whether the thread I find is the one with the issue. Thank you!

I don't think this is a bug per se but something very annoying that I hope might have an easy fix.

I know there is no wiki on the mobile site. And I can't just view the desktop mode on my phone, I have to click the "View Full Site" button on the page. However, now that infinite scrolling is enabled, I can't easily reach the bottom of the page.

Is it possible to have the 'Full Site' button viewable before the next page autoloads?

djmp Apr 12, 2016 8:01 am

The Flyertalk summary email came out, included a link to this thread. I clicked on it and once again got put into the mobile site on an iPad Pro. Tried to scroll to the bottom to get to "View Full Site" button, infinite scroll kicked in and I wasn't able to get to the option. This is very frustrating.

Android Mobile App Issues

Didn't see this addressed in the wiki or elsewhere.

I have the Flyer Talk app installed on my Android-based smartphone (Nexus 6).

Repeated errors:

On "Welcome to FlyerTalk" page: ""Unknown error. Error code invalid_api_signature." This generates multiple times if I bypass the "sign in" page.

On the "sign in" page: after entering username and password, then clicking "login": "Unexpected server response."

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app once already, to no avail.

There's another thread about that issue. Basically the update killed the apps and, as of the last time I read that thread, they don't plan to bring them back, which is stupid IMO.

Unfortunately, you must use the arrow navigation to go to the last "page" of the thread and scroll to the bottom in order to see the "view full site" button.

This is the UI/UX equivalent of destroying the village in order to save it.

Why does every thread have "Thread Wiki: [Thread title]" on the mobile site?

Noticed this for a couple weeks now. Of course, no actual wikis available from what I've been able to tell.

For me, it's literally every single thread on this site. For example, the thread in this forum called "lock out" has it.

Mobile navigation bar

For threads longer than 100 pages, the mobile navigation bar becomes too big and takes too lines on smaller phones like the iPhone 5/5S/SE

RogerD408 Apr 27, 2016 9:58 am

Highlighted text?

I seem to have locked in the word "check" as search results. Every time I bring up a page with that word in a post it is red even if I haven't tried a search. Subsequent searches for other words in the same thread do not highlight, only "check". Searches on threads that don't contain "check" work fine with the searched word(s) highlighted in red. I tried quoting one of the threads and the work is not coded to be red.

This started after the upgrade. I am using Chrome on Windows 10. I pulled up the same thread in Firefox and nothing is highlighted. I tried a search in FF and nothing is highlighted. The system has been rebooted a few times. I waited to see if it went away, but it's still there just now.

Any ideas as to what is going on? I do know that I have searched for "check" prior to the upgrade so thinking something was left behind that needs to be cleared. Please do no ask me to dump ALL my cookies to see if that clears it. If you have a list of cookies/sites used in FT, then I'll be happy to trash those, but don't want to lose all the non-FT cookies just for this issue.

Edit: For grins I tried a Forum Search and that appears to function properly, this issue is with Thread Search.

IBJoel Apr 28, 2016 11:19 am

AllieKat, I couldn't replicate that nav bar problem. Could you post a screenshot?

IBJoel Apr 28, 2016 12:24 pm

RogerD408, we can't replicate that on any of our machines here. Try clearing your history/cache. It might be something stored on Chrome, if it isn't occurring on other browsers.

beltway Apr 28, 2016 12:33 pm

I'm finding that I can't use my mouse's scroll wheel in most FT threads. It works fine in other browsers & even in other tabs of the same IE window.

IE 11, FWIW.

IBJoel Apr 28, 2016 2:31 pm

beltway, is it consistent with what threads it's happening to? I was unable to reproduce in quite a few threads I tried out.

Unclear what the pattern is. Not working in this very thread, for instance.

I got updated by Windows 10 and the problem seems to have gone away... Typical in a lot of areas, something totally unrelated happens and things change. Oh well, Thanks for being there.

beltway May 2, 2016 11:00 am

I just noticed some different (& somewhat worse) behaviors in the forum text-search function:
  • Good news: it's now possible to search for very short strings (LHR) without resorting to the old workaround of putting the string in quote marks ("LHR").
  • Bad news: The search engine still rejects some frequent terms (e.g., "using") but no longer allows a forced search via the quote-mark method.
It appears the engine now treats " as a literal character. Thus, searching for "mileage" turns up only instances in which that exact string--quote marks included--occurs.

For an example of how this breaks things, try finding the thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...d-threads.html by searching in the BA forum for the first word in the title.

Can the IB coders please go back to treating " as a delimiter & not a literal character in the search engine?

EDIT: Further experimentation reveals that escaping a word or character with a backslash, e.g.,
  • \using
  • band\ 1
provides the functionality formerly available using quote marks. That's probably not intuitive for the average user.
