Why does every thread have "Thread Wiki: [Thread title]" on the mobile site?

Noticed this for a couple weeks now. Of course, no actual wikis available from what I've been able to tell.

Fixed!

Mobile navigation bar

For threads longer than 100 pages, the mobile navigation bar becomes too big and takes too lines on smaller phones like the iPhone 5/5S/SE

Highlighted text?

I seem to have locked in the word "check" as search results. Every time I bring up a page with that word in a post it is red even if I haven't tried a search. Subsequent searches for other words in the same thread do not highlight, only "check". Searches on threads that don't contain "check" work fine with the searched word(s) highlighted in red. I tried quoting one of the threads and the work is not coded to be red.

This started after the upgrade. I am using Chrome on Windows 10. I pulled up the same thread in Firefox and nothing is highlighted. I tried a search in FF and nothing is highlighted. The system has been rebooted a few times. I waited to see if it went away, but it's still there just now.

Any ideas as to what is going on? I do know that I have searched for "check" prior to the upgrade so thinking something was left behind that needs to be cleared. Please do no ask me to dump ALL my cookies to see if that clears it. If you have a list of cookies/sites used in FT, then I'll be happy to trash those, but don't want to lose all the non-FT cookies just for this issue.

Edit: For grins I tried a Forum Search and that appears to function properly, this issue is with Thread Search.

AllieKat, I couldn't replicate that nav bar problem. Could you post a screenshot?

IBJoel Apr 28, 2016 12:24 pm

RogerD408, we can't replicate that on any of our machines here. Try clearing your history/cache. It might be something stored on Chrome, if it isn't occurring on other browsers.

I'm finding that I can't use my mouse's scroll wheel in most FT threads. It works fine in other browsers & even in other tabs of the same IE window.

IE 11, FWIW.

beltway, is it consistent with what threads it's happening to? I was unable to reproduce in quite a few threads I tried out.

Unclear what the pattern is. Not working in this very thread, for instance.

I got updated by Windows 10 and the problem seems to have gone away... Typical in a lot of areas, something totally unrelated happens and things change. Oh well, Thanks for being there.

I just noticed some different (& somewhat worse) behaviors in the forum text-search function:
  • Good news: it's now possible to search for very short strings (LHR) without resorting to the old workaround of putting the string in quote marks ("LHR").
  • Bad news: The search engine still rejects some frequent terms (e.g., "using") but no longer allows a forced search via the quote-mark method.
It appears the engine now treats " as a literal character. Thus, searching for "mileage" turns up only instances in which that exact string--quote marks included--occurs.

For an example of how this breaks things, try finding the thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...d-threads.html by searching in the BA forum for the first word in the title.

Can the IB coders please go back to treating " as a delimiter & not a literal character in the search engine?

EDIT: Further experimentation reveals that escaping a word or character with a backslash, e.g.,
  • \using
  • band\ 1
provides the functionality formerly available using quote marks. That's probably not intuitive for the average user.

Looking into this.

I'm really pleased w/ the upgrade so far. Works great - back to the old performance of the gallery.flyertalk.com/wap site without the frequent malformed XML errors.

Search function foibles

I just searched for some pretty common terms in the Air Canada forum such as "NZ" and "AKL" using the quotations and nothing was returned so is there some technical snafu with the FT Search being experienced?

I can find results for Auckland but often posters don't that term for the city and use the airport code instead.

Bartolo May 4, 2016 10:03 am

Posted in the relatively new YYZ border control thread (Air Canada forum) last nte. See post under my profile. Does not show in thread as best I can tell. Re-posted today. Same situation. This has never happened before. Another post I did this morning is in its thread where it should be. Mod notes that posts are out of order which shouldn't happened and suggested I post the tech issue here for resolution/ideas.

Today's update should take care of this issue.
