This will happen when there is a very large image posted in the thread that is displaying on that page of posts.

The blocking can also be due to the noxious ads that pops up on FT regularly. Several users reported that their work now blocked FT due specifically to that. More info are in the technical support and feedback forum.

Suggestion over here that ISPs may be starting to block FT due to the malicious / edgy ad content.

Choice Hotels page hogging ad has appeared about ten times today. MacBook Safari 9.0.3 USA.

Advertisements between posts

I have noticed that Flyertalk now places advertisements between posts, rather than beside posts, which I find very intrusive (presumably this is the intention?). (Previously lack of another immediate post meant that you had got to the last post on the page.)

serpens Apr 1, 2016 9:16 am

While I agree that the ads between posts is disconcerting, I expect to become accustomed to it, and it does solve the problem of the ads obscuring useful text and inappropriately widening the window.

One workaround, if the interspersed ads really annoy you, is to click the Go Advanced button for posting new content. The new presentation does not have the interspersed ads. It does have the posts in newest-first order, which makes me think that the remedy is worse than the malady.

Me too. Really annoying - and it takes its sweet time loading, blocking the page for 10+ seconds before it's possible to dismiss it.

+1

Safari user also. I have disabled pop-up ads and never see them anywhere. This Choice ad continues though. It blocks the page for a long time while it loads (so slowly) and then it can't be closed for a couple more seconds. It's too frustrating so I plan to stay away from FT except when I absolutely need info.

You should not see this ad at all unless you fail to log into FT.

djmp Apr 11, 2016 8:41 pm

You can't get logged in before this ad appears.

Make sure to click "remember me" and you'll stay logged in. Unless your browser is set to clear cookies. No way around that.

Can we please ditch or relocate the Choice Hotels pop up? It is REALLY annoying and has the opposite of the intended effect. It has made FT almost unusable on my iPad.

Thx.

This ad is a big problem for me too. When I browse FT from my work computer I am always logged out, so I see it over and over, delaying me 15 seconds each time. It makes the site unusable.

Not a fix. This ad is incredibly obnoxious and needs to go. Takes FOREVER to load, even on a very fast internet connection, and you can't click on anything (or log in).

When you log in, click "remember me" and be sure cookies are enabled. You won't have to log in every time -- you'll be logged in automatically and you will not see the ad.

Except that doesn't work with private browsing and the site used to work without logging in.

Ibobi, im getting redirecting ads again, UK mobile network only on iphone 5s - both mobile site and full site accessed from mobile device. Same sort of url as game of war. It is on and off but i have noticed it a few times the last couple of days again.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1464/...a24e2b1c_z.jpgUntitled by jcm9000, on Flickr

Note the threads affected just happen to have an advert from our old friendsr when the redirect happens so I suspect this is the ad doing it:

Reporting, thank you!

No thank you ibobi!

Timed the Choice Hotels Ad..

*34 seconds* of locking the site out while it loads. Unacceptable. And it happens multiple times (and no, logging in isn't a fix). Whatever revenue that's bringing is, you're losing site visitor engagement and goodwill in my opinion.

Am seeing both of these, probably one in every three threads I try to open ln average, but often three or four times in a row. Quite annoying....

That ad does not take that long to load. It is likely a browser issue on your end.

Regardless, if you log in, you will not see it at all.

Extremely annoying Choice popover ads on FT

These frequent intrusive adds have only convinced me to not book a Choice hotel in the forseeable future.

SanDiego1K Apr 18, 2016 5:29 pm

I'll move this along to the Tech Issues forum for Internet Brands to review.

Choice Hotel popup Interfering with Flyer Talk Boards

On my I phone as of late I am trying to view posts on various airline boards and The Choice Hotel add keeps popping up covering the boards. Anyone else having the same issue.

SanDiego1K Apr 20, 2016 12:14 pm

I'm going to move this to the Tech Issues forum so that the IB tech folk see it.

Perhaps Choice Hotels Reputation Management would be able to resolve this for us?

A video advertisement that links to the site below keeps completely bogging down my FT experience:
http://www.ok.de/

The ad repeats incessantly and I can't imagine why a german language web site wants to target me in Canada.

I'm using Windows 7 on an almost new Thinkpad with Google Chrome.

I'm having the same problem, using Internet Explorer 11. The OK.de video advertisement runs in multiple frames down the right-hand border of the site, which prevents you from opening multiple tabs/pages and often causes IE to crash entirely.

Exactly the same here - makes FT unusable - been waiting literally 5 minutes for a page to load so I can take a screenprint and see which company it was - finally manage and see others have said the same OK.de
Windows 7 on desktop - Chrome browser but same on IE - uses nearly all PC resources

holmedown May 4, 2016 12:26 pm

and you can see it took me 12 minutes to edit - which involved adding the screenprint and saving edit .. during which time it crashed twice.

DeepUnderground May 4, 2016 12:42 pm

I am also having issues with the same ad basically freezing my computer. Windows 10 / Fire Fox 45.0.2

IBobi May 4, 2016 12:54 pm

Looking into it -- thanks all!

SkyTeam777 May 4, 2016 2:38 pm

Any time I open FT, it completely freezes my entire Firefox. I have to open it in IE, but it is much slower to use.

EDIflyer May 10, 2016 2:50 pm

I'm not sure which video ad it is but there are currently MAJOR issues with lag due to it - takes ages to scroll, massive CPU usage (and consequent battery hit) with >1.5GB of memory being allocated to Shockwave Flash when I checked in Chrome Task Manager. Killing the process immediately fixes things but it makes the website pretty much unusable on a desktop machine at present! There were also previous issues with sound from video ads playing without being requested, which was extremely annoying.

Any chance to just getting rid of video ads altogether please?!

No, but if you can take a screen shot of your page when it happens again I will look into getting the bad one blocked :)
