Does Fukuoka still get asterisked out?

This is a test....

The city of Fukuoka, Japan always used to show up as ***uoka, but someone on the AA board recently typed it cleanly.

Testing again: Fukuoka Fukuoka
What about its airport code: ***

Just curious

There was a Japanese FT'er who signed up with something like that as his handle. Fukusan IIRC. Caused much discussion.

Oz, please get the facts correct - all of them. It was not a Japanses member, it was a smart ... from Seattle who used '**** ' and that caused some concern among many members who saw it's use (which is common among smart asses) as a way to say the four-letter word. BTW, when we made the decision ask the member to choose another user name - it was because even the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) would not approve a license plate with *** -U on the plate. As as we know, they are ever viligant to spot these type of things. But for the record, we also asked other members to not use docsucks, ozsucks, etc. as either their user name or their emailto address. This is spiteful and we'll not have that if we can spot it.

As for the airport.....Fukuoka seems just fine.

And then there is the story (not true) of the French Connection employee from London who wanted to use the user name ...., which is as you might know, the identity campaign they use which did cause some raised eyebrows.

But the 3-letter IATA airport code for this airport still seems to be blocked. And I'm not just trying to make a point here - the first, and I think only, time I had something censored on FlyerTalk was when I referenced this airport in a posting last year. I didn't even realize it at the time - only after reviewing my post and seeing that it didn't make much sense since the reader had no way of knowing where I was talking about did I realize what had happened.

Randy your response has me a little puzzled. It was in 1998 - before my time on FT, but I do recall from reading many reports in my time here that there was indeed a user who had the user name Fukuchan. He posted for over 6 months under that name it seems. He was being widely proposed for the monthly Omni award in 1999, so he presumably was a useful FT member? That user name is not blocked by the profanity checker. Well it is not here in the Sept 1998 debut raising his dilemma. You posted yourself you were comfortable with that user name.

The name Fukuchan clearly did not offend Catman, Punki, Boabab, Matt Wald, Mileage Addict , Beckles, Premex, onefreeman or blondebomber etc, etc in 1998/99, as many threads will show including the one referenced below. Indeed it did not seem to offend anyone that I can see posting there. Many of his posts are still readable on archives.

What is NOT visible now is his stated locale, as that has been deleted, and my apologies here as I have read others here refer to him (un-corrected) as being of Japanese heritage - first time anyone has mentioned his Seattle non-Japanese background that I have read. (But of course you might have known that all along and not posted it before? )

His original user name was as you say, and this area is well covered (and unprofanity edited) in the early threads as - F U K U and I agree that is a user name I'd ask someone to consider changing too. What you do not mention is that it was mutually approved as Fukuchan for use thereafter, and that was the person I was referring to in my post.

You yourself had the following to say about that member at the base of this thread, where many FT'ers commented favourably on that user. It seems he was asked to change his user name 6 months after most were seemingly comfortable with it, and soonafter left FT?

I'd like to personally comment on the issue of ***UCHAN. This gentleman did gracefully alter his original UserName to our concern many months ago and I think he's proven to be a valuable contributor to this bulletin board. ....... ***uchan, thanks for all your input on issues important to the frequent flyer.

........ I think what happened is that one of the employees got on to ***UCHAN recently because of another member complaint to the name and started this all over without realizing that I was fine with the current situation. I am fine and my comments above regarding his contributions are welcome. </font>
