I wonder if it is some kind of disc or I/O problem. |
FT is very slow right now for me :( (other window where I'm trying to post reply has been trying to open for several minutes without success)
Edited to add - has just speed up again to almost normal speed. |

Some additional details which may help figure out what is going on...
I was in FT Reviews and chugging along quite nicely, and then hit a brick wall... much like in the past. However, I didn't realize that this happened outside of the forums. So, I went and checked flyertalk.com - no problems loading that page... it loaded quick. Meanwhile, I was still waiting for my review page to load. I then went into the forums and again - it stalled on my request. Back to flyertalk.com - yup, loads fine. I see that flyertalk.com loads the latest thread posts from the forum system to display on the main page. This means that it is able to query the database properly (although it depends on how the query for flyertalk.com/index* is setup) and also that the webserver is handing out pages okay. So, I started to think about what was different between the forum pages, the review pages, and the main page. The only answer that I can come up with is advertisements. So, the next time that you get a stall, try loading up http://www.flyertalk.com in a new webbrowser window and seeing if that loads fine while the original window remains stalled. That might give a better clue as to what is going on... hopefully. |
I seem to have problems this evening too....
Locks up on a blank page..... |

It's been painfully slow all day today.
Numerous times a blank page loads with just the blue line and the tabs at the top of the screen. A minute or two later, I give up and close the window. |
Still stall/run/stall/run out here too.

Same here.
Rar. |
Today, I've been noticing some delays in loading pages where the top banner ad and FT toolbar will load and then there's a 10-15 second delay (or longer) and then the skyscraper ad on the right and the rest of the page will populate. I thought it was mostly with the USAir ads, but there were other times as well.
I hope this helps. |
I would add my voice to the others. I have noticed this all over the world at all sorts of locations. I noticed this just before Christmas, but it really is mcuh worse now. I often get notices saying that it could not find the page or ages to load or to accept posts. In fact it had got so bad that I was actually posting from cut and paste having prepared the text in a word document that could be saved.
I remember Merry using the expression "stable" about Flyertalk and that is what seems to have gone west of late. I am relieved not to be alone in this as I had noticed that no one on the BA Forum had commented on this. |
I just had a first time ever error message in IE. The top US Air add loaded and I was waiting for the rest of the page to load. I hit refresh and no luck. I then tried to exit and a warning box with close or cancel poped up... it said,
"Warning, the window is trying to communicate with a.tribalfusion.com and closing the window may cause damage to your cookies." I guess this is a new warning window in XPII as I have never seen or heard of anything like this. I did exit the window. It looks like we are back to tribalfusion problems and an add gone bad.... just my guess. |
Maybe a pool of users could test-drive an ad-less FT to see if the problems go away? I'll volunteer. @:-) :p
