Why not change to a data driven board?
Even though I have been a big supporter of the UBB script (and still run a few), FT seems to get very slow and can really drain your server under heavy loads.
Why not convert this board to a PHP data driven board that does not use flat files? They run much faster and FT users might enjoy the improved speed! Most competing board script's like vBulletin offer UBB import tools to bring over all the posts and profiles to keep things running smoothly.
Just my 2 cents for the day......

Definitely... we looked into database alternatives earlier this year, and we were spending a lot of time with WWWThreads (whom UBB bought and rebranded UBB Threads), but that product functioned even slower than UBB did...
Once we get through our current commitments and can spare up a little more time, we'll be going back to our notes and checking out other solutions, among them vBulletin...
