New user e-mail verification?

Is there still verification of e-mail addresses in FT profiles? When new people register, do they get to choose a password right away or do they have an automatically generated one sent to the e-mail address they provide (and this is supposed to happen if you change your profile's e-mail address too). This rudimentary e-mail address verification at least 1) provides a check that the e-mail address stored in the profile is a valid one; and 2) ensures someone else can't use your e-mail address to sign up.

Thanks,
FewMiles..

Someone has told me that they tried to create a new user account (just testing) and found that the e-mail verification is not turned on.  Can it be re-activated please?

Hmmmm. I'll take a look at the settings, FewMiles -- it should definitely be activated if it is not.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, FewMiles, email addresses were not required, and that was definitely a misconfiguration. I've changed that so that email confirmation is back in place.

Thanks again for letting us know.
