I'm having trouble getting on the American forum. Is anyone else having trouble?

Me too. That particular board seems to be down a lot, at least for me.

I can't get in it now and I couldn't get in yesterday until late in the evening -- very frustrating.

Kind of ironic that if this were a delayed or cancelled flight, we'd all be chewing the *** off somebody, anybody!. But here on these boards, we all just patiently keep checking in to see if our favorite boards are up and running again. And the FT folks have been deafeningly silent on what exactly is wrong. Imagine that from AA!

I can't get in either, but it looks as if new posts are being added, so somebody must be in luck.

I too see that someone gets in about every half-hour; but it sure aint me. I get a timeout everytime.

Earlier this week I received the following e-mail from FT in response to a query to them:

"Yes, we're experiencing the same problems ourselves. We've been researching a different server solution to possibly alleviate the load problems we're
currently under.

"...that's caused by the increased traffic we've experienced lately. Wednesdays
(and sometimes Thursdays) are our hardest hit days, since we share space with DealWatch, our search service for low-cost fares, and new deals get posted on those days.

"Again, we apologize for the slowness, but we're behind a rock and a hard place with the server. Although we'd love to have a fast site (I know I would, since I'm just as impatient as any other surfer), we can't afford one right now, and since FlyerTalk is a free service, we have to be pretty creative in how we allocate money to the site. But we are looking into alternate hosting solutions and different server types to try and get more bang for our buck."

Yes, it would be nice if such a message were posted on days when some forums and some boards are impossibly slow. But you get what you pay for; and we get a lot for absolutely nothing!

Good afternoon everybody...or not.

Yes, we're very aware of the problems that we are having and we are continuing to attempt to find solutions to the problems...it's very, very slow going...as you can all tell.

It pretty much appears that the following is what seems to be happening:

1. The server comes under durress on different days at different times...a given.

2. Posting gets interrupted...something which many of you are all too familar with.

3. Files become corrupt. When this occurs the scripting is at a loss as to how to parse the the corrupted data and then the problems really start. Forums slow down and either stop completely or postings show up missing, etc, etc, etc.

4. Forums have to be shut down, and a number of very time consuming processes have to be undertaken to remedy the situation...which is what's going to have to happen to rectify this particular situation.

Unfortunately, at least at this point in time, there is no fast and easy solution...not to mention cost efficient.

Kappa, you have a good suggestion in so far as on days we are having particularly bad performance issues, perhaps we can post something in a common area so that many of you wouldn't feel bothered with attempting to enter a forum that you might not be able to get into...that is what you are suggesting, correct? That might not be too much to ask.

Thank you all for your continued support and for your patience in this matter.

Gosh, it's not even listed as an option on the board. Anybody have a beef with Don Carty? or is Crandall to turn over in-to a grave? Bizarre.

Michael@---

Didn't see your explanatory post. Didn't mean to be rude, dis-respectful, or otherwise overly-cute. But, have to admit, down time was substantial.

Best regards and best wishes

No problem FullFare now that I think about it I've not been very clear in the past about the fact that when I'm working in a particular forum I will be temporarily deactivating that forum...that would probably be a good thing to let everyone know.

Thanks for he patience.

Please do not associate Bob Crandall and graves. We at AA may need him back soon!
