UA Board access

For the past couple days, my ability to access the UA section has been sporadic, while all other areas have not caused any problems whatsoever. Anyone else?

UpgradeMe Sep 22, 2000 6:15 pm

Me too. Netscape 4.7 if that makes a difference.

Craig6z Sep 22, 2000 10:50 pm

Thought it was my imagination. Glad someone mentioned it. Access via the "Hop To" pulldown menus is very long, compared to other forums.

I'm using IE5 on both my office computer (near T-1 speed) and at home (28.8Kb), both connections result in delayed access to the United Forum. This evening at home the Forum opened up and there were no active threads at all (I use the "Last 2 days" setting). When I manually refreshed the browser, everything appeared normally.

blackjack-21 Sep 23, 2000 12:23 am

Also Netscape 4.7, and similarly when I get to the United forums. Extremely slow, and often lately, locking up completely, requiring me to log-off-default to continue.

me too (for 24 hours now) Netscape 4.7 (Mac version)

TravelWeary Sep 23, 2000 11:05 am

My theory is that this is due to the verbosity of you UA flyers!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

RichG Sep 24, 2000 9:43 pm

metoo. Tonight, no access to UA forum at all. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Netscape 4.08 / Compuserve / 56K dial-up

Rudi Sep 25, 2000 2:11 am

this (european) Monday-morning: no access to the UA forum with Netscape (4.7, Mac-version) - at the same time no problem with Internet Explorer 5.0 (Mac-version)

Rudi Sep 25, 2000 11:16 am

at this very moment, three attempts to open the UA forum failed, even when using MS Explorer 5.02 (Mac-version).

doc Sep 25, 2000 11:44 am

IE5.5 works fine it seems! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

So far! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

shadow Sep 25, 2000 12:57 pm

With T-1 access, all others come up blazingly fast. The UA board took 15-20 seconds to load, but did come up. Using IE 5.0

PremEx Sep 26, 2000 12:00 am

My experience with both Netscape 4.7 and IE5.0 is exactly the same as Shadow's. All other forums "load" fast as usual, but United takes about 15 seconds to come up. Seems United delays have spread to FlyerTalk!

blackjack-21 Sep 26, 2000 2:46 am

I gave up trying to load the UA board tonight--started to load very slowly, and I didn't want it to lock-up as before. Just stopped the loading, and went down to the next forum of interest.
No other thread or forum on this site is causing this problem for me, only the UA board.

PremEx Sep 26, 2000 12:02 pm

Now also can't post a reply. It just sits there counting down to nothing.

Michael at WebFlyer Sep 26, 2000 1:18 pm

I'm looking into this matter good people and I appreciate the fact that you've brought this to our attention. Doe's anybody have any other observations to make?

I've viewed that area of our site through several different browsers and have been unable to recreate the situation you seem to be encountering.

Thank you for your help.

I use Netscape at the office and IE at home and both have been giving the periodic fits.

Eastbay1K Sep 27, 2000 11:22 am

So far this morning, no access at all. Other boards work fine.

PG Sep 27, 2000 4:28 pm

I had problems too today. I could not access the United section at times. When I could access, I could not see the latest posts - I could see that the timestamp on the post had been updated, but when I clicked on it I did not get the most recent replies (even when I refreshed). T1 access and I.E.

Other people are having the same problem - you will see multiple (almost empty) posts by others in the United forum.

PremEx Sep 27, 2000 9:17 pm

Still major problems with the United forum. At best a minute wait to be let in, at worst not at all. Hellllp!

blackjack-21 Sep 28, 2000 3:11 am

Just to update--

Tried again tonight. Very slow getting there, but it made it--finally.

Also noticed tonight on other forums and boards, many duplicate and triplicate postings. These don't seem to be intentional duplication, but appear to be a technical problem today.

PG Sep 28, 2000 8:27 am

The United board is empty right now! Maybe some maintenance is underway?

Craig6z Sep 28, 2000 8:58 am

Ditto for me, PG. I'm on a T-1 right now.

PG Sep 28, 2000 9:05 am

Interestingly, you can still search on the United site, and find a post and reply to it. But through the FlyerTalk main page, the United forum comes up empty.

Or do a search for all posts since yesterday (leave all fields blank except the date field - since yesterday, and forum field - United)

MileKing Sep 28, 2000 9:18 am

Empty for me too using the AOL browser.

BlondeBomber Sep 28, 2000 9:40 am

You can access the threads if you switch to "Show All" (ie not just last day or last five days).

It appears there are some (1?) posts that have "locked it up". They have a weird time/date stamp which has no date and a 12-

BlondeBomber Sep 28, 2000 9:48 am

It looks like the -- 12: AM time/date stamp is the problem as the blank date keeps getting pushed to the top even after new posts that should supercede it.

The software then interprets "--" as beyond 1 day and even beyond 1 year. That is why only "Show All Topics" brings the latest (and all) topics forward.

Michael at WebFlyer Sep 28, 2000 10:20 am

Thank you all for your support and feedback. I "think" we're under control again. Pleae hit the United area for me and let me know if you continue to have problems. You can email me directly at mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A> with any and all comments.

Still having problems ....

BlondeBomber Sep 28, 2000 12:56 pm

Totally off line now -- not even "View all Posts" works.

From the most populated threads to the sparsest portion of the board http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Michael at WebFlyer Sep 28, 2000 1:17 pm

That's sure strange. I'm seeing everything. Have you guys tried clearing your cache and all that? Try holding your shift key down and hitting the reload button. Let me know if that helps.

Yup, did that but problems persisted (also mentioned in one of my earlier posts).

Can't get on UA board, two tries, 5:25 pm ET

Update ten min later - got on, unbelievably slow.

[This message has been edited by violist (edited 09-28-2000).]

PremEx Sep 28, 2000 3:29 pm

Michael, this is not a cache problem. Almost everyone seems to be having this problem, and it seems to be getting worse. I was also having the same problem of finally getting into United and then it showing no posts. Later that problem seemed to be gone, but still can't enter the forum most of the time. And when I can, it usually takes several minutes of waiting before the forum loads.

Could it be something related to the high number of posts in the United forum? Perhaps it has become so large that the "cookie" that looks for posts "in the last 2 days" and such, is taking too long to search through the data base?

BlondeBomber Sep 28, 2000 5:33 pm

Working for me now.

Buzz is even larger but was not slow when United didn't work.

Still slow loading, perhaps because of its size, but no problems beyond that.

Rudi Sep 29, 2000 7:50 am

I notice that this Monday through today (Friday) the problems for me accessing the UA board always start at about 15:45 hours swiss time (that is 07:45AM Colorado Springs time). Only minor access-problems from 07:00 to 15:45 swiss time (11PM to 07:45AM mountain time).

Punki Sep 29, 2000 8:32 am

It is getting slower, even on my fast connection. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Is there a fix in the works?

Michael at WebFlyer Sep 29, 2000 8:41 am

I believe that the problems are possibley related to the increase in traffic in this particular forum. I'm seeing all of the postings but even on the very fast connection that I have it seems all too slow. Please continue to help me keep an eye on this situation and give me feedback about your experince as I feel this will help me pin the problem down.
