The Buzz does not work today?
Yes, the site is very slow, but has anyone else have a problem accessing The Buzz today? It times out, I can't get on it at all. That's very unfortunate, as I'm quite desperate to look something up ASAP... Other forums crawl, but at least they work.
Search doesn't work either...
P.S. Perhaps flyertalk operators should take a look at Phil Greenspun's (of photo.net and arsdigita.com) MIT class on community website design, and use his tools - Solaris, Oracle, and simple open source AOLServer...

Yes. FWIW, "The Buzz" is the most severely affected by far. I can eventualy get in, but posting is not seemingly possible, at least for me at this time!
Could it possibly be a swamped server from all the recent media attention with the USA Today exposure right on the heels of the Pudding Guy TV segment on "Extra?"
In any case, I hope it's resolved quickly! Thanks
BTW- Sasha, I emailed you the materials/info from the thread you were after. Hope it all works out!

Agree, Buzz keeps timing out even though I'm using a fast ISDN line. Everything else on the net is loading almost instaneously but FT vv slow and Buzz impossible. Thought it was just me, glad it's not.

no, unfortunately it is flyertalk... I'm on T3 direct line, so no problem on my end.
It's very nice of webflyer folks and Randy to provide this board for free - even banner-free, too - but I have a feeling they need an upgrade or, quite likely, better tools... (from what "they" taught me in school and in life, it's usually not the hardware, but the smart choice of software that's responsible for website performance

This may have been related to the performance problems earlier this week that have gone away. Since The Buzz is the biggest forum, "slow" may have looked like "down." In any case, for whatever reason, all seems well now (Thursday morning, April 13).

My apologies for the inconveniences that our server situation seems to be causing many of you. We are listening and we are in the process of rectifying the situation by moving to a faster server. It's just going to take a little more time however.
The problems experienced on Wednesdays are due to the fact that we have another site on the server that is as popular, and probably more popular, than FlyerTalk. It attracts thousands of people everyday but most of them on Wednesdays as that is when we post the new content for that week. The combined traffic, makes for a very rough situation on the server...not that we're complaigning mind you...we love all of you. We just weren't prepared for such a succesful community.
We will take all of the suggestions listed here to heart and see what kind of solution we can arrive at that will be to everybodys benefit.

ThanX...
