Missing Posts

Has anyone experienced the problem of messages not posting? Just checked out a forum this morning to which I am certain I sent a post last night. The usual cycle occured when I clicked on the "submit reponse" button, but no post in the forum.

Sometimes I find that after submitting, the post will show up at the end of the forum immediately, other times it takes a minute or so, and I must refresh the screen.

What is supposed to happen, and where would my response message have gone?

I had a similar problem once upon a time - it was due to my browser caching the page and going back to the cached version after I posted. As you point out, refreshing usually refreshed it.

It's in your browser, not the site. I used to have that problem all the time with IE4 but less so with IE5. I have the option to reload every time checked but sometimes it seems to want to revert to the cached page. Hitting Refresh (or Reload in Netscape) does the trick.

I think designers of web pages can force a reload at every visit but that doesn't always work with caching going on in the browser either.

Yes, I understand the refresh issue. But why are certain messages not being posted? Obviously, since these are being posted, it does not happen often, but enough to be annoying. (Or less annoying for those of you who have to put up with my messages...)

Are you saying that some of your posts never appear, even after refreshing and clearing your cache?

Hello everyone.

I, like James, would like to know if after clearing your cache and refreshing are the posts still not appearing?

This could be a very big problem. I'm not aware of this being a widespread issue or we wouldn't have the 100,000+ posts that we have but I don't want anyone to suffer from this problem.

In refreshing your browser it would also be best to hold the shift key down while you hit the refresh button as this "forces" the cache to flush and the browser to obtain a fresh copy of the page you are viewing.

Please let me know if this resolves the problem.

This might explain something: several times today, I received an e-mail that people had posted a reply to my post -- http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum73/HTML/000118.html -- but every time I looked, there were no further postings. (One time the summary header also said there were "-1" replies.)

Michael:

I have experienced the same problem a lot lately. I've flushed, and hit refresh many times (using IE5), but I still fail to see posts that I know are there (since there are replies listed, some of which are from me...).
