Welcome to FlyerTalk! Please read:

NOTE: Occasionally, Admin or Tech may use this forum to test software behavior in a "live" forum. Please just ignore.

Welcome to the Technical Support and Feedback forum.

Sometimes something isn't working as we think it should on FlyerTalk or its supporting platform software, vBulletin; this is the place for your requests for assistance. As well, we always want to receive "tech" related feedback from our members; this forum is the place for that. (The Suggestion Box forum exists for more general, non-technical feedback for the Community Director.)

Note that Admin and Tech do not maintain 24/7 coverage here, rather attend US Pacific work hours and days. If you post a question on a holiday or weekend, you may not get a reply until the next work day.

If you're new: It takes a little time to learn to learn to navigate FlyerTalk and there really isn't much of a shortcut. But we can guarantee for most that the time spent on FlyerTalk will be returned tenfold in easier, more comfortable and knowledgable travel.

When browsing the fora, look at the page tops of the various forums. There will be a menu, and often "sticky" threads, and threads with header "Wikiposts" (created and maintained by the FlyerTalk community) with important information relating to that forum / topic. Those Wikiposts can be enabled or hidden and must be expanded to read.

Don't hesitate to contact a moderator or another member if you have any additional questions, or if you wish to report a misplaced or inappropriate post. You can message a forum's Moderators by clicking on to the left of the post in question, which pops up a message box; the message goes to all Moderators of a forum, or to the four Senior Moderators if there are no appointed Moderators. (Note that unlike some sites with paid staff moderators, FlyerTalk Moderators are volunteers, and most work, travel, go on holiday, etc.)

Links to some of the most commonly presented issues in the Technical Support and Feedback are listed below.

Attention and Welcome, New Members

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

FlyerTalk features discussions and chat boards that covers the most up-to-date traveler information. An interactive community dedicated to your favorite topic: travel! That's right: all travel, all the time. The FlyerTalk forums are open for business 24 hours, 7 days a week. Even better, all travelers -- from vacation travelers to mileage junkies -- are welcome in the community. Just choose a forum and you can get to the business at hand: conversing about programs, how to make the most of your miles and points, general travel, airports, destination and dining information.

If you're not registered (free) and signed in, there are a number of features that will not be available to you. If you haven't done so, register here. It's free, it's easy! (You must accept cookies from FlyerTalk. If you do not accept cookies from FlyerTalk, FlyerTalk will not work correctly on your device.)

NOTE: If you're a new member, you will notice you're "throttled back" for a short time until we get to know you better. This is because some clever spammers have visited us and made these temporary restrictions necessary. Before long, you'll no longer be trammeled and will have full access with the same freedoms - and common sense community Rules - that apply to all of us.
  • Your first posts may be sent to a Moderation queue for approval if they contain web or image links, or if you edit them after they've been approved. See Moderator must approve post / approval queue / my post doesn't show / is missing.

  • You will be limited to a maximum of five posts per 24 hours initially, until we get to know you better*.

  • You will be limited to a maximum of five Private Messages (PMs) you can send per day until we get to know you better*. See Becoming "established member" / remove the 5 Private Message per 24 hrs limit?.

  • If you registered with your name, you may wish to change your user handle: Change user name / username / handle: Can I? How?

  • You will be empowered to to add to or edit Wikiposts once you have 90 days and 90 constructive posts on FlyerTalk. See Wikipost" / wiki post questions, issues, discussion (consolidated thread)

  • You will be allowed a signature that appears at the bottom of every post once you have 180 days and 180 constructive posts on FlyerTalk. See Signatures in the FT Rules.

  • You will be able to access The Coupon Connection once you have 180 days and 180 constructive posts on FlyerTalk.

  • You will have access to OMNI (a variety of non-travel related topics) after younhave 180 days and 180 constructive posts on FlyerTalk. See OMNI: Why can't I access it? (Requires 180 days & 180 posts)

  • Ad blockers are strongly discouraged , as they deprive FlyerTalk of advertising income, which keeps FlyerTalk free for members. There is a pop-up message for those not signed in or using ad blockers or tracking protection[/B] as of Sep 2016. link. Technical support is not available to those experiencing anomalies caused by using ad-blocking software; there is no implied or stated warranty of merchantability if ad-blocking suftware is used for browsing FlyerTalk.

QUOTE]From Internet Brands' (FlyerTalk's owners) Terms of Use (link):

    "4. Unauthorized access and activities

Any access to or use of our sites and services to design, develop, test, update, operate, modify, maintain, support, market, advertise, distribute or otherwise make available any program, application or service (including, without limitation, any device, technology, product, computer program, mobile device application, website, or mechanical or personal service) that enables or provides access to, use of, operation of or interoperation with our sites and services (including, without limitation, to access content, post content, cross-post content, re-post content, respond or reply to content, verify content, transmit content, create accounts, verify accounts, use accounts, circumvent and/or automate technological security measures or restrictions, or flag content) is prohibited. This prohibition specifically applies but is not limited to software, programs, applications and services for use or operation on or by any computer and/or any electronic, wireless and/or mobile device, technology or product that exists now or in the future."

  • FlyerTalk use is governed Internet Brands (FlyerTalk's owner) Terms of Use (link), and by the FlyerTalk Rules (link).

*We purposely do not state how much time or how many posts you must make before we remove the posting and PM limits to to inconvenience you, but to stymie would-be spammers.

NOTE: Click on HELP in the right of the main menu bar at the top of every page for other useful links, such as a Glossary and list of airport codes etc.

If you enjoy FlyerTalk, be sure to check out other Internet Brands websites, such as NOLO for legal information, WebMD for health information, and many more. See the full list here .

Reporting problems, cookies

Some technical issues, such as problem ads, inserting images, etc. have existing threads dedicated to specific problems. Please see the next post for links to threads covering recurring topics.

When reporting issues here for tech support, helpful information can include:
  • Links to pages, threads or specific posts causing problems for you

  • A screen print to illustrate problems or problem advertisements

  • Information about your device, operating system, browser and versions
Page misloads, finding you're being taken to previously looked at pages, older stuff popping up?
  • For these and related problems try deleting cookies and clearing the cache on your device.
NOTE: You must accept cookies from FlyerTalk. If you do not accept cookies from FlyerTalk, FlyerTalk will not work correctly on your device.

Searching for information on FlyerTalk

FlyerTalk Advanced Search can seem quirky to the infrequent user, but it's fairly powerful if one knows how to use it.

Some resources for searching FlyerTalk:

Canarsie's Using the Search Feature on FlyerTalk: The Definitive Thread has relocated to the Information Desk Forum; it can be found there.

One can search FlyerTalk with Google with this web form.

Or, if you are used to Google search, go to Google and preface your search terms with site:www.flyertalk.com in the box on the main page, along with your search terms.

Or, use Google Advanced Search and insert www.flyertalk.com in the site or domain: box.

Other options using Google from FT Moderator essxjay:

"If I only need search results from FT I make it explicit e.g., site:flyertalk.com "Amanwana", which returns just 671 results rather than tens of thousands.

And since you know which forum to look in you could refine the above even further to search just the luxury hotels/travel forum. Thusly, site:flyertalk.com inurl:luxury-hotels intext:Amanwana. That returns 629 hits.

Here's a nifty 10 minute overview of advanced search operators if you're so inclined."

Use of non-approved software to "enhance" viewing of FlyerTalk.

We are proud of the fact that FlyerTalk is free to members. The reason it is free is because it is supported by our advertisers. Please consider: the use of pop-up blocking and / or use unapproved modifying software deprives Internet Brands, FlyerTalk's owner, of the advertising income that enables IB to offer FlyerTalk free of membership fees or charges

We thank you for turning off your pop-up blocking software when using FlyerTalk. If there's an ad or ad source that is causing problems, please report it so Admin / Tech can take action to eliminate problem or inappropriate advertisements for everyone's benefit. (If you do default to use of tracking protection or ad blocking, please add FlyerTalk to your OK or "white" list.)

Please note that posts discussing or advocating the use of pop-up blockers will generally be summarily deleted. Note some members have experienced malfunctions and display anomalies whilst using ad blocking software. There can be no stated or implied warranty of merchantability with vBulletin software or FlyerTalk when add-on software is used to mediate its activity. Technical issues members may experience resulting from the use of ad blocking software will not be attended here.

Thank you for your consideration and for helping keep FlyerTalk free to members.

/Moderation Team

From Internet Brands' (FlyerTalk's owners) Terms of Use (link):

Offering suggestions for FT changes or modifications.

When offering suggestions relating to the technical side of FlyerTalk, please remember that technical changes and tweaks must be able to carry over to
1) the other ~100 sites operated by Internet Brands that are using vBulletin as their platform, and

2) all other Internet fora using vBulletin as their platforms.
To make suggestions regarding new FT fora, forum reorganization, etc. to Admin, please do so in The Suggestion Box forum (link). All suggestions and recommendations made there come to the direct attention of the FlyerTalk Community Director.

Question repeat posts ...

Hi all, total newbie here so hope you can help me out please...sorry if I have posted in the wrong place !

When i'm reading a multi page thread and go to page 2 the first 16 posts are repeats of the last 16 from page 1 ! Can't find a way to fix it ...

Must say while I'm here how much I'm enjoying the site and how useful it has been during my recent travels.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

You are getting a database error. In my experience those are infrequent and may be cookie connected in some instances. The easiest way to clear that is to make a post in the thread, at which point the database (and cookie?) will reset for a normal experience.

(We'll move these posts to the database errorbthread soon. /Co-Moderator)
