I reported both of those to tech; Mike is running the script that resets everything, so they should be OK by tomorrow.
In BIGGER news, we think we now know what's causing this and are pursuing a potential policy change that will allow us to resolve this pagination issue once and for all. Stay tuned ;) |

I guess this is good news/bad news but more on the bad side.
We think we know what is causing it (at last) but cannot remedy it until a future build of VB becomes available, and we don't know when that will be. For the time being, we'll consider this a chronic bug with relatively modest side effects and hope that we can fix in in the future. Mike will continue to run the fix-it script periodically, which usually takes care of it for a while. Thank you for your patience; wish I had better news! Paul |

Here's a similar issue, perhaps resulting from the same bug:
My subscribed-threads list shows that http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...-2-2-back.html has a new post as of yesterday. Clicking on the link to the (supposed) last post, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...l#post21060709, brings up the last page, but no such post. The stats for the user in question show exactly 1 post, but "show all posts by this user" produces nothing, suggesting that it was deleted. One difference from the "phantom page" phenomenon is that my subscribed-threads list continues to show unread posts in the thread even after I've visited the last reachable page. |

Sorry to hear the phantom page phenomenon will be a never-ending bug on FT. Sad, but not surprised, especially after years of reporting the same issue. Sigh!

If I am not mistaken, the situation you described has nothing to do with the phantom page bug. It has everything to do with FT's built-in spam trap due to the hyperlinks in posts from FTers/newbies with low post counts. I guess admin/MOD can confirm my theory after reviewing the provided example.

Yep there are two posts at the end of the thread that are in the spam trap.

Looks like they got deleted. Hopefully they'll clear out when mike runs the cleanup script next.

This master thread over CommunityBuzz! Forum got this phantom page problem a few days ago:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...ho-we-all.html Page 193 was generated when there's currently only 2879 posts to fill 192 pages. |
And every page with this issue causes the mobile app on my iPhone to crash. I've reported it over in the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...-feedback.html thread but hoping posting it here might help stir a fix as the app is pretty much useless as one doesn't know a thread has this problem until the app crashes

Tech is running the thread cleanup tool.
