Email delivery problems

If you are having a problem receiving emails from the forum, please let us know in this thread.

wesmanz Jan 12, 2011 6:59 pm

I've been signed up for some time now and still have yet to get email notifications when people reply to a subscribed thread :-/

This is because you registered with Facebook connect, so we don't have an email address for you. If you update your email address in MyFlyerTalk, you will start receiving emails. Note that when you change your email address you'll have to confirm it before you're able to post again.

Awesome, figured it might be something like that but didn't want to change anything before getting it figured out....thanks a lot. Sorry for mucking up this thread :D

No worries!

todorovic Jan 13, 2011 11:22 am

Can't definitely say if the problem is due to this change, but I haven't received an email today after a new post appeared in the subscribed thread. I use a gmail address.

Gmail doesn't seem to be a problem right now. Currently, we're only having issues with Yahoo, but that should be fixed here shortly.

Ocn Vw 1K Jan 15, 2011 4:11 pm

I've got RBPs/FT emails sent to yahoo.mail and have noted more delays than normal starting yesterday. (About 12-18 hours delayed.) But over some time Yahoo.mail has been erratic. Some msgs. I receive promptly. Others seem delayed for 6-8 hrs. Some weeks/months faster or slower than other months.

angela24c Jan 17, 2011 9:29 am

looks like nc.rr.com is having delivery problems. :(

Thanks for reporting this. We're working on the issues.

FriendlySkies Jan 20, 2011 11:52 pm

I've been having some issues receiving FT updates on my .mac account. I've gotten most emails, but over the last hour or so, I've gotten nothing

IB-Dick Jan 21, 2011 4:04 pm

We aren't aware of any recent problems with .mac addresses, but I'll go and ask some questions.

bacook Jan 23, 2011 4:36 am

I seem to be getting subscription notifications and PMs daily instead of instantly which is my setting.

Any news about .mac? I've still had some delayed emails..

I used to get several email notifications per day from subscribed threads but since a while I receive none. I checked my email address and setting and they seem to be ok. Any ideas?

Have you whitelisted FlyerTalk and made sure none of the emails are being sent to spam?

I m having this same issue, and they are not going to Spam. I get the periodic blog from FT, so no issues there. My subscriptions are not coming. This includes threads where responses came several months ago and I just happened to look at the thread and saw them (no notice) as well as threads I've signed up for in the last few days where responses are coming in and I'm getting no notification.

(And I'll keep an eye on this thread since subscribing likely won't show me if there are responses :))

Cheers.

brp Feb 26, 2021 9:43 am

Checking back on this to see if there's any update.

Cheers.

Don't hold your breath. I've not had these emails for maybe a couple of years now with some potential blame being directed at my email provider but no solution given (without changing provider which isn't going to happen).

Didn't get notified about your response :) The monthly or so blogs they send make it, so I know that the email address works. They don't seem very intent on fixing this based on the lack of response here, unfortunately.

Cheers.

Exactly. I do see that all the check boxes for my "Subscribed Threads email notification" are UNchecked. Despite checking them all again, the next time I return to look they are unchecked. There doesn't seem to be a "save" button or anything to acknowledge that I have made changes to the check boxes.

IBJoel Mar 1, 2021 7:05 am

Try whitelisting specifically: [email protected]. The forum emails and newsletter use two different emails.

Thanks. I can certainly do that. Since the messages are not being trapped by my Spam filtering intermediary, it's unlikely that this is the cause. But it certainly won't hurt to do this anyway while you folks look further into this.

Cheers,

Good point. All of mine are unchecked as well. Does that mean that notification si actually turned off for some reason? That would certainly explain why we're not getting notified :)
But, as you say, there seems no way to check these and keep them checked. Bug?

Cheers.

Oooohh maybe this was it? So check all of them that you want email notifications for. Then scroll to the bottom and select how often you'd like to get an email for them. Then click "Go" and it will update all threads on that page.

Doesn't seem to have helped. I did exactly this and, after hitting Go, they all show as unchecked again.I have already tried the whitelisting suggestion above and didn't, for example get notified of your response here.

Cheers.

They don't need to be checked, they need to say "Email: Instant/Daily/Weekly" in the column immediately to the left of the "checkbox" column.

At present they do.indicate "Instant". And the notices are, as before, not coming. Your latest response here is a current example. seems not to be working. Help fixing this appreciated.

Cheers.

sbams Mar 4, 2021 5:06 am

My subscribed threads were showing "instant" all along but I did recheck them and select GO as suggested. It hasn't helped unfortunately

Standby, we're examining the possibility of doing a "Forced Send" (which should theoretically unclog the drain, so to speak), but are looking at if we can target it a little more precisely.

TomMM Mar 4, 2021 3:51 pm

I've recently noticed a slowdown of notifications. Not completely clogged but enough to notice. I especially noticed the issue with PM notifications.

Thanks Joel.
I just checked with my Spam service to see if things got blocked on their end, and they see no emails coming to them from flyertalk.com in the recent past. So it definitely seems to be on the sending end. They suggest that my email may have been added to a "suppression" list bounced on a single bounce in the past. Not sure of the details of your config, but that's one idea they had.
Thanks for looking into this.

Cheers.

Just received this:

Re: vBulletin Email Test (With -f Parameter)

You are receiving this email because your email address was entered as an email test at FlyerTalk Forums.

The first step of this email test script has been completed. However, a formatting test is still necessary:

A paragraph break.
A single line break.

Another paragraph break.
Another single line break.
Another single line break.

If the above lines look correct, you are finished. The email features on your server are setup correctly.
If this email is run together on one line, there is possibly a configuration error with your mail server. Please ensure it is configured correctly.

We just have to send them individually. I am rounding up users' emails now. The techie just picked one at random to test.

IBJoel Mar 9, 2021 3:32 pm

From Tech:

Many large service providers such as Verizon, AOL and MSN are implementing aggressive filtering. In many cases, the customers of these providers can place the email address you use for notification in their contact list and then your emails will be allowed through. If this doesn't work, you should contact the provider in question and ask to be placed on their whitelist. Some providers will charge a listing fee for this.

In addition, AOL (and possibly others) will not accept emails from domains that do not have reverse DNS setup. It's possible these emails are being placed into a spam folder or are being filtered.

brp Mar 9, 2021 5:01 pm

Thanks Joel,

I have checked with my spam filtering service (where this address is whitelisted) and they have checked logs indicating that nothing has come to them during the time period when a number of threads on which I'm registered would have sent notifications and they saw nothing at all. So it's not being filtered by them as it is never getting to them.
Cheers,

IBJoel Mar 10, 2021 12:02 pm

Did anyone besides TomM receive a test email?

brp Mar 15, 2021 4:47 pm

Any update on this?

Cheers.
