Plus1 for the Droid App. ^^

WithOUT half the screen being taken up by advertising, as I've already seen posts in other forums reporting on the iphone app. :td::td:

It isn't just the excessive area devoted to advertising, it's the bulls*** ads that are being inserted.

"Get an iPad for $25"

That's a scam. There must be a better way to insert ads that are relevant and reliable.

One thing I'm noticing posting right now from the app is that when you quote a prev post, the quote does NOT include the QUOTE=xyz coding to link to the immediately quoted post but DOES include the embedded quote as well as the link to that quote. None of that is standard behavior on the web version.

Also, I find the formatting palette too close to the last line of text as it gets in the way when I want to place the cursor to edit, etc.

Finally, I find the page numbers too small to hit accurately, particularly when jumping to the last page.

Hope this helps & thanks!

It does help! Thank you, again, for the constructive feedback.

I have noticed that when you post from the App - you also have options to post a pic or video... although I have not had any success with this.

Is this really functional? It sure would be nice to be able to post a photo directly into FT rather than just linking to a website...

Anyone have any insight into this?

There is a vBulletin setting to allow attachments. This specific forum doesn't allow users to upload attachments, although I'm not completely certain why. It's more of a legacy policy that Randy would more than likely be able to explain. Since vB supports it, this app supports it, however it should consider the board settings and suppress the options if appropriate (as it is here). I honestly thought I had checked this, but I might have missed it with my test account. (my admin account is allowed to do just about anything I want. :))

I will verify this and we should be able to get it fixed.

Thanks for checking.
Just for other readers' reference, the subscribed thread completely disappears from the list of subscribed threads. So if I had 20 subscriptions before, the number of subscribed threads would go down to 19.

I've finally been able to replicate this!! My problem is that my account is set to automatically subscribe to threads I post in, and that function actually works when replying from the app. If you don't have this setting set and you reply to a thread you're subscribed to, it removes your subscription.

Great detective work! That explains why I didn't have this problem when I posted above from the app but retained my subscription to this thread.

Suggested solution to long threads...

In the spirit of FT, why not list threads with more than 1000 pages as...

"1K+"

Just an idea from a guy who hangs in the Delta forum. :D

Want to use the app but find the inability to not sort the posts in a thread newest to oldest a pain for long threads.

The idea is great but unfortunately its slow to load and the ads make it unpleasant, i have made a bookmark for the Air NZ forum and find it faster just to load that straight off my iphone

Unfortunately I don't want to do automatic subscription to threads because I want updates only for those I think are relevant at the time.

Facebook Connect?

What about those of us who connect through facebook? there is no way for me to log into the app.

I wish Flyertalk were Tapatalk compatible for the iPhone.
(But I guess the version of vBulletin used and the customization does not support this?)

Update disappointment

Today I reinstalled the app on my iPhone, thinking I'd give it another try after reading about the update.

I don't mean this in an impertinent way, I realize you want/need to generate revenue. But after a few tries resulting in more than one line of ads per page, I'm left thinking that
1) FT is all about profit for itself, - very much like a FQTV program that thrives off loyalty - but offers none in return,
2) FT ignores that the users are the only(!) asset to FT. Without the users, the FT site and app are actually nothing.
3) there is no reason for me to use the app, and
4) into the trash the app goes again.

I was wondering who developed the app as I'm a developer myself?

From what you wrote I think your check also came up with this, but for your reference, if I access the subscribed thread the hard way (by navigating to it) then reply, my subscription is also removed.

This should be fixed for the next update.

You are correct. Right now, the only way for you to log into the app is to go to MyFlyertalk and add an email address and password to your account. After you do this, You'll be able to log in with that password. This will NOT remove your ability to log into your account with facebook connect though. That will still function the same.

I don't understand why you feel that we ignore the users. We created this feedback thread which we are monitoring and will use to improve the application.
