So far as I know, my Inside Flyer subscription is still good (at least, I'm still getting the magazine -- I think my subscription ends in April next year).

Thanks.

Incidentally, your IF subscription was from 2010 to 4/30/2013, so it ran out as of yesterday, at least according to subscription info through FlyerTalk. If you have a non-FT subscription, just contact IF directly :)

I just received a warning e-mail that mine will be expiring shortly as well, could you adjust it before I even have to see those ads? :) or not until the premium membership expires?

I can't believe this thread is still active.

The problem that many internet sites have is they can never figure out how to make money.

You guys have people willing to pay for your service. Yet you still can't figure out how to do something as basic as accept payments in a single region (I understand you're available worldwide, but accepting payments has to start somewhere). This blows my mind. Surely other users of vBulletin software have figured out how to do this?

A solution was offered almost two years ago:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17328445-post37.html

And while it might take a few more than "five minutes," it took my company less than a week to begin being able to receive Paypal.

This is indeed utterly mystifying.

My IF sub expired and I'm seeing ads. I even renewed said subscription only to discover FT Premium is in limbo. Can someone also help me with blocking these ads please? Its a big drain on mobile browsing for sure! Thank you.

I think i am approaching my subscription expiration - can you extend it?
Will pay whenever the adfree option becomes available again.

Indeed it is. And now for the first time since 1846 I am seeing adds all over the place with no premium service in sight.

No solution yet?

I'd happily pay to have an "ad free" experience

I normally read FT using my iPad, my "fat fingers" often accidentally open ads

Although this may be good for IB as I guess "every click through helps"

No Ad free FT option at this time

Recent received

Paid Subscription Expiry Notice

Hello,

Your access to the "Ad Free w/ One Year InsideFlyer.com" is scheduled to expire soon.

Currently, we do not offer a premium service. We are working to put together an ad-free service for FlyerTalkers, and will announce a new package site-wide when this is available.

Yours,
FlyerTalk Forums team
and took effect today.

No sure where to direct this post, so will start here.

1) Disappointed the choice was to re-introduce (even if temporarily) ads for folks who had longtime supported the community with a subscription. Why could not the "ad free" option be continued until a true option was available?

2) This choice will drive more to the "free" option of ad blockers and foreclose future participation in any new program.

3) The announcement seems to be parallel of the customer unfriendly approach some airlines use -- with a lack of forward looking info. When will new info be available? Only a tease of what may come but in the meantime I get ads and someone gets revenue from those ads.

Believe this has been handled poorly.

wharvey Sep 29, 2013 11:00 am

While I wish there was an ad-free version available to all members, remember you were supporting Randy Petersen and not really Flyertalk.com. IB was being generous to give you ad-free access for the past few years even though Randy Petersen was not involved with this site.

I understand the need for change but get the new method in place before turning off the old method -- there has been plenty of time to do that.

Another negative -- my PM ability has been disabled as I exceed the "free" limit.

What else has this broken? To this longtime active supporter of FT, this feels very customer unfriendly. Forcing ads and not providing an option (and even a timeline for the option), disabling functionality, ....

I must admit it has been eye-opening to see the aggressive amount of ads on FT. I understand the need for revenue, but lacking any other choice I will not tolerate the ads.

SQ421 Sep 29, 2013 8:03 pm

....... plugin for your browser of choice works well to get rid of ads

One would think that in twenty-five months (!) this could have occurred. Especially since, as noted in that thread, a Paypal account could be set up in a day.

I really appreciate the helpfulness of the IB staff, but this is just utterly puzzling.

I think most agree that it would've been nice had an ad-free version been rolled out quite a while ago. However, as you've now discovered, a quick, polite post here, indicating that ads have returned for your account, usually solves the problem, as IB has been very willing to, at no cost, extend ad-free browsing for those who had a subscription.

While it's not been handled wonderfully, and many of us would be happy to pay for this ad-free browsing, IB has decided not to deal with that right now, and simply gives it to those who previously had it, at no cost.

IBobi - I appreciate that you're addressing these individual cases as they pop up. But where do things stand as far as FT introducing a "premium" product?

IBobi Jan 2, 2014 12:20 pm

As with all new products and updates, as soon as I have some scheduling information, I will pass it along in the appropriate thread. I have no new info at this time regarding Premium.

Paul

Guy Betsy Nov 17, 2014 11:18 am

No Ads please !

There was a time when we could pay a premium (like $20) to remove ads when we log on.

Sadly that option is gone now that FT has been sold to Internet Brands.

Why?

I don't mind quiet ads. But when I'm surfing along and suddenly get one with sound, it is very annoying !!

How to turn this off?

We've merged some comments and threadlets into one "master thread" with a summarizing wiki so members coming here can get the basics easily, and so when change is announced it can be added.

Thank you for your participation and patience.

If you have an Android, you could always root your phone and get ....... Plus.

On desktop, you could use ....... and ....... Plus on Google Chrome (or Chromium built browsers).

IBobi Nov 18, 2014 1:41 pm

Hi everyone,

As of now, we do not have a solution regarding Premium. What this means is that there is currently no plan for a Premium, ads-free product. It doesn't mean there won't ever be one, but the fact that it's not on the radar means it probably won't be happening any time soon.

Regarding ads, please *do not promote ad-blocking software on FlyerTalk*. I don't know that anyone particularly enjoys seeing advertising. But the fact remains that FlyerTalk is *free* to use, and that's because of advertising revenue. In addition, the use of adblockers causes us (me) no end of headaches, because it interferes with site functionality in such a way as to make it very difficult to determine if there is an issue with flyertalk.com, or with a single user's computer. The complaint comes in and must be researched either way.

Thank you all for your help,

Paul

JDiver Nov 18, 2014 5:18 pm

Thanks, Paul, for the update.

It might not be what some of us wanted to hear, but at least it brings some closure to this issue and quells any anxiety over when the Premium service might become available and how we'd hear about it.

As a moderator, I waived Premium subscription possibility because I wanted to see the ads (to report inappropriate content, ultra-pesky or malfunctioning ads.

I never thought about ad blocking software causing problems at the back end! That's good to know, because I don't want to jam a stick in the spokes of FT.
