Here's the problem that I have today:

Inbox contains 1,193 messages.
You have 2,124 messages stored, of a total 500 allowed.

I have ....... Plus running on my laptop. I subscribed for the InsideFlyer only to get the ad free version of FT when using other computers and a larger PM box.

IBobi Oct 26, 2011 11:35 am

Understood. There are a number of members in that position unfortunately. Your PM box should expand and retain your old PMs when youn sign up for the new Premium service, provided you don't delete them to make space in the smaller box.

I don't have a date yet for when the new Premium will be up though :(

That's what the actual issue is; there is not yet a way to sell those benefits to any user. But we're working on it. At the moment, they just expire.

How about you just extend the benefits for free to everyone that had a subscription that's expired this year? Then, when you finally get the new system in place, you can cut off the free access again and push us towards the premium service.

You guys have been talking about how awesome this is going to be for 7 months now. Do you have any updates that you can share with us, including a rough timeline for when it will be online? I'm amazed that you have many people that want to give you money, yet you can't even figure out a way to accept it.

karenkay Jan 1, 2012 4:00 am

my inside flyer/flyertalk premium subscription ended yesterday, and my mailbox is 100% full because of it. i have ad-block (thank you, safari) so while the ft page layout looks somewhat different, i'm not subjected to annoying ads, but i would like not to have to delete my pm's going back to 2005. that led me to seek out this thread.

so, um, while reading this thread where questions about the end of premium service started (ahem) last year, i'm wondering why you guys can't seem to find a way to take money from people who obviously would like to give it to you. just askin'.

to my fellow flyertalkers in the same position, have you deleted hundreds of pm's or decided not to accept new ones?

I deleted them. There is no "search" ability for PMs so they really weren't doing me much good anyhow.

Now I'm feelin' kind of inadequate because I've never had hundreds of PM's. :(:p;)

Though word on the new/improved premium would be nice.

Working on an equitable solution to this; I'll get back to you when I have a process in place, hopefully by next week. Pinging tech now.

Thanks for your patience and suggestions :)

Renewed InsideFlyer Subscription but still Seeing Ads on FT

Has something happened? Yesterday I had no ads. Today I see my InsideFlyer subscription lapsed. So I went to re-up, but when I go to link the accounts, I get this message:

Enjoy a Premium FlyerTalk Experience and Help Support the Community!
Frequent flyers are nothing if not addicted to upgrades. So, we are in the process of building out a new elite status program. We are still working with the bean counters to build out the strongest package we can. But expect an announcement about the details in TalkMail in the coming months. If you are not already subscribed to TalkMail, you may do so here.

Always,

FT Mgmt
Did I do something incorrectly?

Is this new?

Please define "new."

If you had followed this thread, you would have known magazine subscription doesn't get you ad-free FT no more since early 2011 or something. Here are words from the owner of FT:

We are in the process of putting together an even better Premium package that will include Ad-Free browsing. Stay tuned!

Fredd Jan 9, 2012 8:54 am

I just received my notice, searched, and found this thread.

I do hope a solution is on the horizon.

Since some of us are impatient, and since it's "next week," any news on this? :D

IBobi Jan 9, 2012 3:06 pm

Already started :)

Over the next couple of weeks -- maybe sooner, depending on the scope of this project -- we will implement a solution that will make everyone happy.

Thank you for your continued patience; I'll get back to you very soon.

I am truly confused by this. You already had the technology available (as demonstrated by the fact that many of us had the ad-free version for years).

All you had to do was arrange for payment -- and you could simply have said "Send us $15 by PayPal".

Why has this taken so long?

I understand your confusion.

The facility for linking payments to services simply does not exist at present, since FlyerTalk is a free website.

The previous arrangement was through a subscription to InsideFlyer, which as you know is not affiliated with FlyerTalk.

I hope you'll find the temporary solution more elegant and to your liking anyway -- even though it is taking some time.

We all know that FlyerTalk was not affiliated with InsideFlyer.. I believe the question that we're all wanting to know is Why couldn't you have setup a paypal account, and then manually updated our accounts when we paid you?

I even offered the use of my PayPal account. :D

This is a pain. My PM box has instantly become unusable...unless I delete hundreds of PMs I don't want to delete.

:td:

Now that my subscription has expired, I'm rediscovering how annoying those ads are, and a ^ that FT/IB plans to continue to offer an alternative.

I can hardly wait. ;)

Run Squid Proxy locally, takes away the pain with a Block list.

I have used it for years under Windows, just works.

:D

IBobi Jan 18, 2012 12:40 pm

Working with tech on this today.

Just FYI, we're active on this!

IBobi Jan 18, 2012 1:33 pm

Announcement

In the past, FlyerTalkers have been able to effectively "purchase" an ads-free browsing experience, along with a larger PM box, by subscribing to an online magazine unaffiliated with FlyerTalk.

As the existing subscriptions have expired, so too have these FlyerTalk benefits that came with it.

In the coming year, FlyerTalk will be rolling out a brand new array of Premium subscription services to its members; until that time, any members who have a current, up-to-date subscription -- or had their subscription lapse in 2011/12 -- will be offered the ads-free browsing and larger PM box benefits for free.

Again, this only affects FT members with existing or recently lapsed subscriptions; the changes will be made automatically and those users falling into this group will experience the change seamlessly and with no action necessary on their part.

When we begin offering paid Premium services in 2012, this free benefit period will end.

I will have an ETA on this soon; if you fall into this group, most likely you will simply see ads disappear and your PM box increase to its previous size.

Thank you, and we look forward to showing you what's in store for 2012.

Best,

The FlyerTalk Team

Ads-free and PM box increase is in effect

Per yesterday's announcement, we have now implemented the free benefits for previous IF subscribers.

If you are a subscriber and still seeing ads, please PM me or report here, and we'll sort you out.

Thank you so much for your patience with us in getting this temporary solution in place!

This is really great for us with a sometimes slow (wireless broadband) connection. It is also nice to have the expanded mailbox capacity back!

Well, we resolved it a year ago, per the above comments. Users who were already subscribers and whose subscriptions did not lapse have been given ads-free browsing until a premium subscription is available for pay once again.

My subscription just ended and the darn ads are back. How do I get the ads free browsing you just mentioned back? Do I need to resubscribe?

Edited to add: I didn't know about this whole mess until my subscription ended. In fact I didn't know my subscription was ending until it was too late to keep the ads away.

I have re-enabled ads-free for you until Premium is available.

Mine just ended today. Any word on when we'll see the rollout of the premium version, and any hope for my PM box until then? :D

Thanks!

Looks like my premium membership has expired as well; happy to pay to avoid the ads - any news on when the option will be back?

My premium subscription just ended today. Could somebody please re-enable the ....... and PM box increase? Thanks.

Done.

My premium subscription just ended yesterday. Could you also please re-enable the ....... and PM box increase for me too? Thanks.

On a positive note for you iBobi, I believe I should be one of the last folks requesting this as I believe the Premium Subscriptions were only offered through the end of April 2011 and 2-yr Inside Flyer subscriptions were the longest subscriptions people could purchase at that time IIRC.

Counsellor May 1, 2013 5:42 am

Mine, too, please.

So far as I know, my Inside Flyer subscription is still good (at least, I'm still getting the magazine -- I think my subscription ends in April next year).

Thanks.

IBcash May 1, 2013 10:50 am

gregorygrady and Counsellor: You're both set with ad-free browsing :)

Counsellor May 1, 2013 11:10 am

Thanks, IBcash!
