What is TalkBoard doing?

This forum has gone quiet of late. Is TalkBoard working on anything of interest to the wider membership at the moment?

We are working on the TalkBoard guidelines and we are working on a couple of charitable requests.

You can find us in the club, bottle full of bub...

Hm. Well, it HAS been relatively quiet of late, but that is relative to a very busy few months!

Speaking for myself only, my own impression is that I'm taking stock of what we hath wrought with the plethora of new forums created since the last TB election. I've been checking in on them and looking at activity and focus. Some have taken off like gangbusters. Others are more moribund. We'll see what comes of that...

And traveling a lot, which distracts from TB duties...

Looking at my last bunch of posts (post-Ambassador debate era) they have mostly been about vetting requests for approval under the Flyertalk Cares - Our Members Efforts program and continuing the long and arduous task of creating comprehensive Talkboard Guidelines.

Let's see...I also chimed in on a discussion about the creation of a Texas forum (against), clarifying FT Cares public notices on this board (for), talking about how best to recommend the gaming loyalty forum...and along the way earning a description that I have stolen and use all the time now: "He can smilingly tell you to go screw yourself and, for a few moments, you actually look for a way to do it." ^

If there are any things that you feel like we OUGHT to be talking about in addition...by all means...

As noted, it's a long and arduous task...herding cats using a hose would be my analogy.

IMHO, as a current and previous TalkBoard member, TalkBoard will only become effective when it has an huge infusion of new blood--really new blood--folks with new and exciting ways of looking at things.

Much as I like my my current fellow TalkBoard members, and I do, nothing is going to change on FlyerTalk until we make some serious TalkBoard changes--starting with the membership.

This is your chance to make FlyerTalk a better place, so don't forget to run, campaign, and vote, whichever best suits your style. ^

Punki
, I'm sure you're talking about those other TB old-farts and not me.

I've been taking my Geritol daily and I think my old blood is new blood nowadays.

Some time ago I started a thread asking TB members to review themselves against their maifesto promises. Not one posted.

Perhaps that would be a good thing to do whilst things are quiet here?

That could be construed as electioneering and electioneering is not generally permitted in this forum except under the terms that are announced prior to the call for candidates each year.

Do you have any specific questions? I don't really have a 'manifesto' per se, but I'm always happy to explain the reasoning behind my votes/actions...

Perhaps the ones that are not up for re-election this year would not have this problem?

Lightbulb Status Report on unimplemented approvals

Without making too much of a fuss, is it possible for TB to agree that someone can post an update on a few of the not-yet-implemented motions passed?

In most or all cases the info is already out on FT, so there shouldn't be any secrets.

Can you confirm IF...
  • the pending approvals in a holding pattern (e.g.the pictures proposal) until after the implementation of a new version of the forum software?
  • there any motions being held back due to technical issues like this software upgrade? (such as a proposal to streamline the structure of the larger forum list)

Motions, past 100 days:Motion Passed: Charitable Request - Dreamflight
Motion Passed: Gaming Loyalty Program forum
Motion Passed: Charity Request - Kiva
Motion Passed: Permit Test of Photos in 4 Forums
Motion Passed: Rename TripRewards to Wyndham Rewards (formerly TripRewards)
Motion Passed: Remove Flyertalk Reviews
Motion Passed: Publish TalkBoardDO Meeting Summary
Motion Passed: Travel with Pets
Motion Passed: Seniors Travel Forum
Motion Passed: Charity - Medicin Sans Frontieres
Motion Passed: Pan-Mass Challenge Charity
- - - -
Motion Failed: Flyertalk Ambassador Proposal
Motion Failed: Close Religious Travelers Forum
Motion Failed: Publish TalkBoardDO Agenda
I suppose this is a relatively (very) low priority, but any info is appreciated!

It would then be a question of campaigning at the 15-month point, rather than at the 3-month point...

1) Things such as the pictures proposal are being held off until the new software is implemented. I believe Randy made mention of that in a previous thread.

2) No motions have been held back due to technical issues. Any motions that have been made & seconded have been posted here & voted on per TB guidelines. I believe that Randy's team is experimenting with the look & feel of FlyerTalk with the new software, but I have no idea what the new, if any, layout changes may be.

These seem like questions that Randy may be able to address better.
